Activities at Chalfont Lodge Care Home

Chalfont Lodge is a large care home and we have a diverse range of groups and events to ensure that everyone feels welcome and included. In the Lifestyle team we work hard to create a sense of community and ensure there is always someone to talk to and something to do.

Our residents help us to plan the monthly lifestyle programme, making sure that everyone has something they like, enabling people to keep up with life long hobbies or pick up new ones. We have long term projects like our summer parties, car shows, BBQs, craft fairs, Christmas shows to mention a few and residents can be as involved as they would like in all stages of the planning or just come along and enjoy on the day.

We love going out on trips, to lunch, shopping or to socialise with other local groups, we also have many people who come into visit us with church services, music, talks and support for our bigger events.

We have a fantastic team of staff and every department is involved in making sure our residents get the most out of living here. We have a brilliant music therapist who works her magic 3 days a week, running group and individual sessions. Our Physiotherapy team keep everyone fit and active, working with us to make sure everyone has access to sports and team games.

We have a full programme groups, events and clubs but none of it would be possible without our residents and their families, we all work together to make this a home from home and to keep laughter and friendship at the heart of what we do.

Hello, I’m Alex the Activities Lead at Chalfont Lodge, working with me is Louise Doyle. I've worked at Chalfont Lodge for 8 years now. I originally started off as a volunteer and fell in love with the residents, families and staff. Since then, I've been an Activity assist, Activity Coordinator and now the head of the department! Activities are my passion and I love creating an environment where all of the residents can thrive and do what they love!

Autumn Flower Festival

This month we held our second ever flower show at Chalfont Lodge, this time focusing on Autumn. We had a wonderful 11 residents who came forward and wanted to create a display. The weeks leading up to the event everyone thought of their theme, made a backdrop for their flowers, collected props and even made wheatsheaves to go alongside the displays.

The results where all outstanding. We would like to say a massive well done to everyone who worked so hard in making their displays, but a special mention to our winners!

For our Bronze award, winner for her creativity and use of colour – Tori & her ‘Other Worlds Sunset’ Display.

Taking home the Silver award was – Betty & her ‘Misty Sunrise’ display, with beautiful colours and splashes of yellow.

Finally, the Gold award went to – Lianne and her ‘Autumn Starry Nights’ – Lianne worked so hard, her wheatsheaves was beautiful and her use of Gypsophila to create little shining stars was so creative, we’d never seen anything like it.

Well done to all 3 of our winners!

Community Champion

Alex Perkins, Activities Coordinator, has recently been crowned as the national winner of the Community Engagement Award at the 2019 Barchester Care Awards that took place on the 3rd of October.

The judge for the category, Barchester’s Anna Shirley, said of Alex that “Alex is always looking for new opportunities to put the home on the map, and with utter belief that community engagement builds residents’ confidence Alex works tirelessly to engage in a plethora of community groups and activities, from the Chalfont Lodge art exhibition to Cruffs at Chalfont to Sports days there is something for everyone.  Her art classes are renowned in the community and bring together all ages to create memories and nurture their inner Van Gogh.  Alex even has an ‘adopt a grandchild’ scheme which is a fantastic example of an intergenerational initiative and something that she tells me is a big hit with the children and the residents.”

Anna continued, “I loved Alex’s energy for life and energy to make the resident’s at Chalfont front and centre of the community….something she is achieving in spades.”

Alex said of her win that, “I am very proud, and very honoured to be receiving this award. We work hard here at our home with a focus on the people we care for, and not for accolades, but it really is very special to be recognised in this way.”

Manager's Challenge

Manager's Challenge

On Friday 23rd of August we held our first ever ‘Manager's Challenge’. Managers and deputy managers from across the region competed against each other, in order to prove who is the toughest, quickest and strongest.

All while having fun and raising money for the Barchester Foundation. The day was a huge success and we would like to say a massive congratulations to our sister home – Chorleywood Beaumont for taking home the trophy!

Pets as a Therapy

Pets as Therapy

This week our beautiful PAT dog, Penny, came around for lots of cuddles from all her friends here at Chalfont Lodge. Everyone is always delighted to see her coming with her wagging tail.

Summer BBQ , Summer BBQ

Summer BBQ

Thanks to everyone who came and spent the afternoon with us at our Summer BBQ. We were very lucky with the weather and enjoyed a lovely day in the sunshine.

We’re so proud of everyone who took part in our poetry reading and Louise’s community choir performance. It really made the event special.

It was a lovely opportunity to be able to thank all our relative’s who’ve gone above and beyond this year helping out around the home.

We also took the opportunity to say congratulations to Alex Perkins for winning the Community Engagement award for our division.
