Activities at Challoner House Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life. Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Life at Challoner House Care Home

Intergenerational Fun

Over the festive period, the residents at Challoner House were so pleased to welcome the local Chandlers Ford Brownies to spend the evening playing games and singing for us.

The Brownies brought with them their own version of festive bingo and gifts of Hyacinths in vases and Christmas cards for all residents at our home. It was a lovely intergenerational activity session that we wish to continue to host going forward.

Welcome Paula!

The residents at Challoner House are pleased to welcome our new home hairdresser Paula.

Paula joined us at the end of December 2024 and the residents just adore her. She comes with years of experience of working as a hairdresser in Care Homes and is always so happy and smiley when in the home.

Paula is in the home every Wednesday. She has an appointment system and really takes her time with our residents.

Panto Time

The residents, relatives and community of Challoner house are delighted to welcome Tickled Pink Productions into our home to entertain us with the pantomime of Beauty and the Beast.

The residents decided they wanted to hold the pantomime in January so they can extend the festive period and have something to look forward to following the Christmas celebrations. The Pantomime was one of the best we have hosted here at Challoner House and was a really amazing turn out.

Families have been quoted saying ‘how amazing and special the performance was and that they were pleased to be invited to share it with the lovely residents.’ Residents have requested that we book Tickled Pink in for more pantomimes in the future as they enjoyed themselves so much and have not laughed that much in a long time. It brought back so many fond memories of spending time with children and grandchildren.

Christmas Crafts

The residents at Challoner House have been busy with some Christmas crafts recently!

We decided to make some festive trees to decorate the home and used some cones and some wool along with some decorative items to create some lovely modern Christmas trees.

The residents really enjoyed participating in this craft and the activity was even shared with residents on a one to one session in the comfort of their own room.

Craft activities are so good to bring out our creative side as well as being good for residents dexterity.

Christmas Cake Competition

The residents at Challoner House took part in the Barchester Christmas Cake Competition.

We held a meeting to plan what we wanted our cake to look like and decided on a three tier forest village scene. We planned a few sessions to start the bake and then to decorate the cake.

The residents were really pleased with their entry and look forward to the results being announced.

Elf Day!

The residents and staff at Challoner House were really happy to participate in Elf Day in order to raise awareness for Alzheimer’s.

Staff and residents dressed up in Christmas and Elf costumes and had a really fun festive day playing games and tricks on staff.
