Activities at Challoner House Care Home
Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Life at Challoner House Care Home
Sports Afternoon
The Residents, Relatives and Staff enjoyed a lovely afternoon of sports thanks to Rise Sports Winchester and Southampton. Laura from Rise kept us fully entertained with a variety of sports fun, playing Rugby, Football and Tennis suited to all our residents abilities. We had two teams playing against each other, the Blue Peters and the Jackonaorie's so the games become a little competitive, At the end of all three games we are pleased to announce team Jackanory were the winners of the Rise cup.
Flower Making
At Challoner House our residents really enjoy a crafting afternoon, for our latest Craft session we decided to get really creative using pipe cleaners and wool to create a lovely flower arrangement. We started the day decorating some flower pots the got to work making the flowers we made a selection of lavender, daisies and daffodils and as you can see the outcome was really affective. Art and craft sessions are always good for our mind, body and soul especially good for our dexterity.
Ice Cream Day
On Friday the residents and staff all enjoyed an afternoon of ice cream treats. The Activities team put together a trolley full of delicious ice cream with a variety of toppings. The trolley went around the home playing the traditional ice cream van tunes whilst delivering tasty treats to every resident, staff and visitor in the home. We had the choice of Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry, Raspberry Ripple, Mint Choc Chip and Salted Caramel ice creams with toppings to everyone's taste. The flavor of the day was defiantly salted caramel with fudge sauce and a chocolate flake.
Smoothie Making
At Challoner House we decided to boost our Nutrition and Hydration by spending this morning making some thirst-quenching smoothies. The residents chose some of their favourite fruits to blend with some vanilla ice cream.
We decided on smoothies as they are ideal for all our residents’ dietary requirements and when we had finished making a variety of flavours, we were able to take a trolly around the home offering to all our residents in their rooms.
Our residents chose to make three different flavoured smoothies, we had Pineapple and Peach, Strawberry with Raspberry and Peach and lastly strawberry, banana and mango. During the activity session we spoke about the different fruits, textures and flavours then voted for our favourite from the three with the winner being Strawberry with Raspberry and Peach.
Challoner Travels
This month our residents have enjoyed some lovely mini bus outings to the New Forest and to Carlos Ice Cream Parlour. The residents were able to choose their favourite ice cream to enjoy in the gardens at Carlos overlooking the petting animals, We were really lucky to have a couple of warm and sunny days so chose to spend as much time outside as possible. The residents like driving out to Carlos and driving out into the new forest to see the ponies.
VE Day Celebrations
Challoner House marked the anniversary of Victory in Europe Day in style by throwing a 1940s afternoon tea party to remember. The home was decorated in red, white and blue and we enjoyed an afternoon of big band music and dancing out on the courtyard.
Head chef Weronika whipped up a delicious selection of freshly-baked biscuits, cakes and pastries for the occasion, all washed down with pots of tea and a celebratory glass of Pimm's to mark the occasion
