Activities at Challoner House Care Home
Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.
Read our brochure 'Life-enriching activities' for more information about life in our care homes.

Life at Challoner House Care Home
Exercise Class
Our residents here at Challoner House have been enjoying an energetic morning! Movement to Music sessions are really good to keep us moving, we use a variety of fitness equipment to make sure we make the most of keeping us fit and healthy. The residents then choose a piece of relaxation music to end the sessions deep breathing exercises.
Knit and Natter
The Residents and Staff at Challoner House have recently started up a weekly in house Knit and Natter session, We have started knitting squares for local Neonatal units.
Alongside our weekly in house sessions we will also be opening our doors for the local community to join us on the second Tuesday of every month starting on 12th March, where some lovely refreshments will also be provided.
We find that our Knitting and Nattering sessions are not only good for our dexterity, creativity but it gives us time to reminisce and get to know each other a little more.
Chinese New Year - The Year of the Dragon
Staff and residents welcomed in the Year of the Dragon with a day of celebrations and activities.
Inspired by Chinese culture and traditions, lucky red envelopes were exchanged and the home was decorated with hanging red lanterns. Residents learnt all about the traditions and superstitions of Chinese New Year. Head chef Weronika cooked up an oriental feast for lunch and residents enjoyed the delicious food washed down with pots of Chinese tea.
Gill a resident at Challoner House said: “I loved the music, the vibrant costumes and learning about the Chinese Zodiac animal traits. A person born in the Year of the Dragon is said to be kind, confident and strong. I find it fascinating to learn all about different traditions.”
Valentines Trail
Here at Challoner House, to celebrate Valentines Day we went to the local high street and hid 12 roses for the local community to find and return to our care home. If you found and returned the rose to our care home you would recieve a prize! We have had many members of the public arrive at our doors for their reward and we have loved welcoming them into our home. We hope everyone involved enjoyed our Valentines Trail.
New Friendships
Residents and staff at Challoner House Nursing Home in Chandlers Ford had a blast celebrating Make A New Friend Day on February 8th. There were smiles all round as the home welcomed staff and residents from Shawford Springs Care home to join them for their live entertainment morning.
Sunday Morning Games
At Challoner House we like to keep our Sunday mornings relaxed, This Sunday our residents decided to get together and enjoy a relaxing game of Dominos. Dominos are a not only a great way to get together for a social reminiscing session but is also great for some competitive brain training and dexterity.
