Activities at Cheshire Grange Care Home

The activities team are constantly striving to meet the varied needs of everyone who lives in our home, offering a wide range of group and individual social events. There are regular visits from entertainers, along with craft activities, baking, games & puzzle days and pampering sessions, which fill the week. However, we can always find time for outings and just spending that little bit of special time with residents who enjoy the peace and quiet. We aim to bring the activities to the individual, whilst making it a whole home experience.

After originally starting at Cheshire Grange in May 2015, I'm delighted to be back in the role of Activities Coordinator. Life at Cheshire Grange Care Home

A spot of early Christmas shopping

A trip to the local garden centre at High Legh, gave some of our ladies a chance to peruse the Christmas decorations and gifts that were filling the shelves. The decorations were the topic of much conversation especially the well know Christmas ornament, The Plush Rat!!!! Although, many items were admired and given a thorough inspection no purchases were made except for some rather tasty sandwiches and drinks!

Spooksville

With Halloween not too far away, we decided it would be fun to use one of our favourite arts and crafts activities to celebrate the occasion. The ladies and gents really enjoy our Spoonville Families that we create from wooden spoons so why not create Spooksville!! We always look to make our arts and crafts age appropriate but we think that Spoonville covers all generations, the residents find the actual making relatively simple but they have such a laugh whilst making the characters, and we all know that laughter is the best medicine.

Harvest thanksgiving

With the summer drawing to a close and the Autumn colours starting to show we talked to our residents about what this time of year meant to them, many talked about farmers gathering the harvest, picking apples and the church Harvest Festivals. We asked residents what they’d like to give thanks for and used our sentiment tree to create an eye catching display for all to share in the café area.

Edinburgh Botanical Garden

Our homes enjoyed a wonderful virtual tour of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh with Community Engagement Manager, Charlotte Walker, and Botanic Cottage Operations Co-ordinator, Laura Gallagher.

The residents were thrilled to learn more about the history of the beautiful Garden, which is now a home to an impressive plant collection from around the world.

Charlotte and Laura also gave a demonstration of making fresh herbal tea and were happy to answer our questions.  The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all who joined.

Back to School

As we all know, our Grandparents have a habit for giving some interesting advice and our residents at Cheshire Grange when asked thought it would be a good idea to share some of their words of wisdom with those starting school this September. We created cards to send out to all the local schools with such pearls of wisdom as ‘Do your very best and be confident’, Your Mum & Dad did this and so can you…be brave’, ‘Be good, listen and try your best, that’s all you need to do’ and ‘Keep your nose clean ..and your hands!’.

Residents enjoyed revisiting their school days, remembering the kind teaches and those who maybe weren’t!

Beach Party

The spirit of the seaside came to Cheshire Grange as residents and families enjoyed a Summer Bash. The dining rooms were decorated to set the scene for a seaside inspired menu created by the hospitality team, including a fish medley served in a basket, in the afternoon Dean Sinclair came to entertain us, looking like he’d just stepped of the beach in Hawaii, residents and visitors had a great time singing along to summertime favourites, there was a visit from the ice cream van and lots of laughs with our seaside photo cut out.
