Activities at Chester Court Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinator is dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Our aim is to make sure that our residents feel they had something to look forward to each day. We have a varied life enrichment programme, both in the home and in the community, and we always ask if there is anything different that residents would like to do. Residents and families approach our Activities Coordinator and comment on how much they enjoy what we do, so that we can continue to develop our programme to the benefit of our residents.
Lauren Corbett
Hi, my name is Lauren and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Chester Court. I joined the team in December 2020 and bring a wealth of enthusiasm to the role. I have just graduated from university in July 2020 and have previously completed work experience at another Barchester home. During this work experience I discovered how meaningful and important activities are for residents and how they can help enhance resident’s lives. Therefore, I decided to become an activities coordinator myself as I feel this is such a rewarding role.
I love working with our Residents here at the home and getting to know them and their families so that I can deliver and support in meaningful activities, keeping them socially stimulated and active as part of our extensive life enrichment calendar. The lifestyle and continued community links are also important.

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Chester Court Care Home
Come sing!
Residents across our homes and hospitals had a fantastic time with vocal coach Dan Cooper from Biiah as he led an amazing sing-a-long session for residents to enjoy. Residents who joined the event were able to learn different techniques as they sang the famous ‘I Can See Clearly Now’ by Jimmy Cliff and ‘Here Comes the Sun’ by The Beatles. Across our homes there were smiles and laugher all around. The session was such a success and was great for the mind, body and soul.
Beat The Clock
We continue to celebrate a varied life enrichment programme and across our services we linked up with other Barchester care homes and hospitals up and down the country for some interactive Beat the Clock games.
Our residents truly enjoyed solving word puzzles, conundrums and mathematical problems as part of Barchester’s very own game show series.
Everyone who joined had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.
Harrogate Chocolate Factory
We had a brilliant time across our services with Harrogate Skills 4 Living as they took us on a wonderful virtual visit to their Harrogate Chocolate Factory.
Residents were thrilled to discover details about the chocolate-making process and the fascinating journey from bean to bar, all while enjoying some delicious sweet treats.
The Factory aims to employ people with learning disabilities and autism, involving them in all parts of the process, from sorting and roasting the beans to packaging and sales. The experience was truly enjoyed by all who joined this event.
Ducklings hatch at Chester Court
Residents at Chester Court have been eagerly waiting to welcome the ducklings, who arrived in an incubator, ready to hatch.
As part of the spring surprise, residents were able to watch the eggs hatch live and witness the miracle of life as ducklings were born in front of their very eyes. There was much excitement on the day, with residents keen to keep a close eye on the new arrivals.
A resident, said ”It made me so happy to watch the ducklings hatch and grow – my grandfather kept chickens, ducks and geese when I was a little girl, and it brought back such nice memories of that time. I check on them every day and I love it when they fall asleep in my hand.”
A trip to the home of the Magpies
Cracking morning spent yesterday at NUFC with the boys . We were treated to a fantastic rendition of anicdotes and humorous banter from the lovely Alan Shoulder , a former NUFC player in the 70s-80’s. He entertained us with past stories and memories of his team mates and time in the toon. He was hilarious . Such a natural born entertainer. All of us decided we would come and see him again and again. Thank you Alan for making all of our mornings. Thanks also to NUFC for putting on the memory cafe, it truly is a great morning for reminiscing and discussing matches of old, it benefits all who come along.
Mother's Day
Mother's Day celebrations were in full swing here at Chester Court as we raised a glass to all of our wonderful ladies. As part of our celebrations we welcomed families and friends to join us for a very special coffee morning and the homes hospitality team whipped up a spread of delicious and mouthwatering treats for everyone to enjoy. Thank you to all those who were able to join us we had a fabulous day. Happy Mother's Day!
