Activities at Chester Court Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinator is dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Our aim is to make sure that our residents feel they had something to look forward to each day. We have a varied life enrichment programme, both in the home and in the community, and we always ask if there is anything different that residents would like to do. Residents and families approach our Activities Coordinator and comment on how much they enjoy what we do, so that we can continue to develop our programme to the benefit of our residents.

Lauren Corbett

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Lauren and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Chester Court.  I joined the team in December 2020 and bring a wealth of enthusiasm to the role. I have just graduated from university in July 2020 and have previously completed work experience at another Barchester home. During this work experience I discovered how meaningful and important activities are for residents and how they can help enhance resident’s lives. Therefore, I decided to become an activities coordinator myself as I feel this is such a rewarding role.

I love working with our Residents here at the home and getting to know them and their families so that I can deliver and support in meaningful activities, keeping them socially stimulated and active as part of our extensive life enrichment calendar. The lifestyle and continued community links are also important.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Chester Court Care Home

An afternoon with Mind Active

We love our lunches with Mind Active. Once again they excelled themselves in hosting a fabulous afternoon filled with great food, company and quizzes. There was lots of banter and laughter too and residents were entertained by the fantastic, Marc McCann.  This is a popular trip for the home and Mind Active volunteers always do an amazing job and we look forward to seeing you again soon.  Thanks for all that you do!

St James Park

Another cracking morning visiting St James Park home of NUFC for the Memory Cafe. Residents were delighted to meet and be entertained by the lovely David McCreery.  Residents love their regular trips to the cafe and enjoy catching up with their friends from sister home, Station Court too!

National Scrabble Day

It was dictionaries at the ready at Chester Court where super-competitive residents were keen to get involved in National Scrabble Day.

Staff and residents at Chester Court decided to host an afternoon session to decide their ultimate Scrabble Star. Both staff and residents enjoy a game of Scrabble or two and they love coming up with new and improved ways to increase their letter and word scores.

Pet therapy Ralphie!

Who doesn’t love a cuddle with our furry friend, Ralph?  We had a fantastic day when little Ralphie put in an appearance and kept us entertained and was only too happy to oblige with lots of love and cuddles!

He is an absolute joy to have around and we are already looking forward to his next visit.

Butterfly Paradise

Our butterflies are multiplying and thriving our live butterfly garden.  Our garden is allowing us to observe the butterfly metamorphosis which is creating magical moments for us all.

They have been a huge hit with our residents who say “they could just watch them for hours just flying around – just beautiful creatures!”

Come sing!

Residents across our homes and hospitals had a fantastic time with vocal coach Dan Cooper from Biiah as he led an amazing sing-a-long session for residents to enjoy. Residents who joined the event were able to learn different techniques as they sang the famous ‘I Can See Clearly Now’ by Jimmy Cliff and ‘Here Comes the Sun’ by The Beatles. Across our homes there were smiles and laugher all around. The session was such a success and was great for the mind, body and soul.
