Activities at Chester Court Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinator is dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Our aim is to make sure that our residents feel they had something to look forward to each day. We have a varied life enrichment programme, both in the home and in the community, and we always ask if there is anything different that residents would like to do. Residents and families approach our Activities Coordinator and comment on how much they enjoy what we do, so that we can continue to develop our programme to the benefit of our residents.

Lauren Corbett

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Lauren and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Chester Court.  I joined the team in December 2020 and bring a wealth of enthusiasm to the role. I have just graduated from university in July 2020 and have previously completed work experience at another Barchester home. During this work experience I discovered how meaningful and important activities are for residents and how they can help enhance resident’s lives. Therefore, I decided to become an activities coordinator myself as I feel this is such a rewarding role.

I love working with our Residents here at the home and getting to know them and their families so that I can deliver and support in meaningful activities, keeping them socially stimulated and active as part of our extensive life enrichment calendar. The lifestyle and continued community links are also important.

Life at Chester Court Care Home

A little competitive fun

A great game of dominoes, Joan was unbeatable...

Playing dominoes can be a fun and engaging activity for people of all ages. Not only does it provide a way to socialise and connect with others, but it also has physical and cognitive benefits that can improve overall well-being.

Summer Fair

Chester Court Summer Fayre: what a fabulous afternoon we all had. The sun shone and the music played, thanks to our guest singer Mark McCann who got everyone singing along . Thanks Mark. A fun filled afternoon of Pimms and cakes, candy floss, ice cream sundaes and a decedent chocolate fountain. An amazing Tombola, a crazy Teddy Tombola and a staggeringly generous raffle filled with great gifts and vouchers so kindly donated from lots of our local businesses and residents families. We thank you all wholeheartedly.

Thanks also goes to Dawn and Lynn for making the delicious cakes, scones and pies, a triumph ladies in such a short space of time . Also thanks to our lovely helpers for all their hard work on the day : Jenny and her Grandma, Pat, Britney, Bethany, Dani, Zara and Anise. And a big thanks to all the carers and nurses for getting our residents involved.

Shanah Tovah

Happy Jewish New Year to all our residents and Jewish friends. Here’s to a Sweet and happy new year. Spent the day with residents toasting in the New Year with a Jewish tradition of with dunking Apple into Honey, to symbolise a sweet and prosperous new year.

We also tried new fruits to symbolise new experiences and possessions by tasting grapes that taste of Candy floss. We also made a traditional Honey cake. “Shanah Tovah” Translated from Hebrew means ….Have a good year everyone !!!!

Mayfair of Nightingales

Residents across our services had a fantastic time joining Mandy Morrow for a virtual walking tour to learn about the ‘Herstory’ of Mayfair. The Mayfair of Nightingales may be long gone but it still holds a 20th century charm. Birthplace to the late Queen Elizabeth II, home to one of WWII's most decorated female war heroes and a tale of a wealthy Aristocrat and one of France's favourite designers.

We were delighted to take a walk down memory lane and discover stories from one of London's most iconic areas.  The experience was truly enjoyed by all.

Dogs Trust

Residents across our homes had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event, led by Jennifer and Emily from Dogs Trust, the UK's largest dog welfare charity. Jennifer and Emily took us on a journey to discover the rich history of Dogs Trust and their facilities.

Using captivating video and photo footage, our residents were able to explore rehoming centres and learn more about the highest level of welfare offered there. It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our dog lovers.
