Activities at Chester Court Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinator is dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Our aim is to make sure that our residents feel they had something to look forward to each day. We have a varied life enrichment programme, both in the home and in the community, and we always ask if there is anything different that residents would like to do. Residents and families approach our Activities Coordinator and comment on how much they enjoy what we do, so that we can continue to develop our programme to the benefit of our residents.

Lauren Corbett

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Lauren and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Chester Court.  I joined the team in December 2020 and bring a wealth of enthusiasm to the role. I have just graduated from university in July 2020 and have previously completed work experience at another Barchester home. During this work experience I discovered how meaningful and important activities are for residents and how they can help enhance resident’s lives. Therefore, I decided to become an activities coordinator myself as I feel this is such a rewarding role.

I love working with our Residents here at the home and getting to know them and their families so that I can deliver and support in meaningful activities, keeping them socially stimulated and active as part of our extensive life enrichment calendar. The lifestyle and continued community links are also important.

Life at Chester Court Care Home

Home presents cheque to local charity

Chester Court care home in Bedlington recently presented Northumberland Community Enterprise Limited with a cheque for £500 towards the cost of equipment for this charity providing a luncheon club for the elderly.

NCEL were founded in 2008 by a group of dedicated volunteers and operates various initiatives and projects to better the lives of disadvantaged people living within Stobhill and throughout South East Northumberland. Their services are open to all age ranges and run from their Stobhill Link Community Hub. They offer volunteer opportunities and address local issues such as health and wellbeing, unemployment, skills building, horticulture and social inclusion.

Dressing the tree

We have been very busy here at Chester Court as we decorated the home and shared a little festive sparkle everywhere.  Our Christmas trees have themed design and are shining brightly across the home and we know angels are near when feathers appear!!

We dedicated a tree to all our lovely residents we sadly lost this year. We decorated wooden feathers and hung them on a tree in their memory… gone but not forgotten and always in our thoughts.  We also spent time sharing our fond memories of Christmas past and those childhood memories of Christmas and family traditions.

A morning with the Magpies!

Fantastic morning spent at NUFC with the boys … brilliant hospitality from the club for these die hard Newcastle fans. Thank you Carly for kindly inviting us! We had a wonderful morning reminiscing with the aid of Lee Clark who took us all down memory lane of the fantastic 90’s season which we all remember fondly. Also a bonus for us all was some time spent with Sir John Hall too, who was looking amazing for 92 !!!

Keep going Sir John you are doing champion!!

Lunch with the Salvation Army

We had a fantastic lunch at the Salvation Army. A special thank you to all the lovely Mind Active volunteers who made us so welcome.

One of our lovely residents won the raffle too! Thanks again for a fantastic afternoon with the talented Andy McGowan treating us to an array of fabulous tunes old and new.

Children in Need

We enjoyed a themed coffee morning as we came together to support this year's Children in Need and in the process raised £100 for this worthy cause.  Thank you to everyone who came along and joined us, we had so much fun and can't wait for our next event.
