Activities at Crandon Springs Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Katherine Cork

Activities Assistant

Hello, my name is Kath and I’m the Activities Assistant here at Crandon Springs.

As part of the Activities and lifestyle enrichment team, I help in organising our daily activities, ensuring that all of our residents have a variety of activities to choose from each day. I love enriching our residents’ lives by providing meaningful and engaging activities and, having been both a teacher and care assistant in the past, have a wealth of experience behind me. You'll rarely find me without a smile and I'm very family orientated, and I love how both the residents' and colleagues Crandon Springs feel like a second family to me!

Cocktail Making Class

Our residents were treated to a Cocktail Making Class at Crandon Springs today! Our activities co-ordinator Tabby hosted a tutorial and taste session with our residents this afternoon. On the cocktail menu today was Sex On The Beach, Mojitos & Snapps Mix!

We also offered a mocktail option but Peter decided to stick to a Guinness ice!

Nature Photography Competition - The Results!

As you may be aware, Crandon Springs Care Home have been running a nature photography competition for the local community to take part in.

Crandon Springs was transformed into a photography gallery and exhibition all in the comfort of one of our resident lounges. Our residents were able to view all the entries and judge the best photographs!

Congratulations to AJ Clements and Stephen Greenster!

Thank you so much to everyone that has entered our competition the residents thoroughly enjoyed all the photographs that were sent in. Please keep your eyes peeled for more community events involving our residents.

Donation to The Blue School - Wells

Community engagement is a fundamental part of life here at Crandon Springs so when we noticed a local school had been looking for garden furniture we wanted to be one of the first to help! The Blue School in Wells sent out an advertisement asking for funding support to help the children have more garden furniture. On the 28th of April, our Head of Maintenance Paul, met with Grounds keepers Toby and Paul from the school so we can donate two large picnic benches!

We hope they are enjoyed by the children and young adults.

Breakfast Club!

On the morning of the 28th of April, our colleagues at Crandon Springs joined our lovely residents for a continental breakfast and natter. Over breakfast we reminisced with our residents on their careers and family life all whilst being served and enjoying a very lavish breakfast.

Virtual Zoo Experience

As part of Barchester’s Life Enrichment Programme, team members and residents at Crandon Springs in Wells, were this afternoon treated to an exciting virtual talk, generously hosted by Five Sisters Zoo! Crandon Springs shared the opportunity with Rockers and Rollers Day Nursery where the children also enjoyed the Zoo experience too!

The residents had the opportunity to explore and learn more about the animal life at the zoo and the important conservation, rescue and education work carried out at the grounds of the zoo.

Five Sisters Zoo was officially established in 2005 with just a small collection of rabbits, guinea pigs, goats, and pigs. Since then the zoo has grown into an exciting collection of over 160 different animal species from all around the world.

One of the zoo’s many important initiatives is to provide permanent homes for rescued bears, lions and animals that have been part of travelling circuses or other establishments.

Lucy Tomlinson, Resident Experience Manager for Barchester Healthcare, commented: “Our varied life enrichment programme keeps the residents active, and provides a daily choice of engaging physical, mental and spiritual activities tailored to the residents’ interests and abilities.”
