Activities at Cumberland Grange Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Gosia Andrews

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Gosia and I am the Activities Co-Ordinator here at Cumberland Grange.

I have been in the care sector since 2008, and I also have a degree in teaching. I am here to arrange and run a varied Life Enrichment Programme which is full of fun activities for our residents to take part in. We do lots of different activities here which change on a regular basis, including weekly trips out in our mini bus, flower arranging, live musical performances, arts and crafts, cheese and wine nights and so much more. We also have groups which happen every week, mostly lead by our residents, including Poetry Club, Gardening Club, Politics and Pastries, Cumberland Grange Choir and Knit and Natter.

We have monthly resident meetings where we discuss life at Cumberland Grange. We talk about the activities that we currently run, including activities that our residents would like us to incorporate into the planner.

Making wishes come true is also something that we love to do. So, if our resident has a wish, together we try our best to make that happen, because life at Cumberland is about having fun and making even more special memories.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

A wonderful Christmas was had

Santa (Bob our Head of Maintenance), with the help of our General Manager Marc and Head of Activities Gosia worked hard to spread joy around our home on Christmas morning with presents for all of our residents.

As you can see there were lots of happy faces as we spent a wonderful day together, joined by many family and friends for a Christmas dinner feast cooked by our wonderful Head Chef Chris. A day full of love and laughter!

JACK AND THE BEANSTALK PANTO

It was funny, it was witty and it was a perfect way to end the Friday before Christmas. We sang and we laughed, we cheered and we booed. Well done everyone - so udderly fantastic!

Everyone played their roles so perfectly.

Until next year…!

Our runner up for Carer of the Year!

We are thrilled that our very own Carer Donna has been awarded the Carer of the year runner up for the Barchester South Division.

We are so proud of you Donna!

Supporting our local community

Whilst we’ve been busy enjoying lots of wonderful festive events here at Cumberland Grange and whilst our carers have continued to shine and just being totally amazing, Mica our Home Services Advisor has been working hard behind the scenes supporting our local community!

Last week we had the privilege of supporting Age UK Exeter with their fundraising event - our chefs baked three delicious cakes for them which went down a storm!

Then this week, we had the privilege of supporting our local Neighbourhood Policing Team Devon & Cornwall Police with their Christmas hampers for the elderly within our community.

Being able to support local charities and organisations is something which means a lot to us here at Cumberland Grange.

HORSE & CARRIAGE

We had a fantastic morning with Cobs and Carriages this week with a wonderful ride on Woodbury common.

The weather may not have been the best, but that didn’t stop us having a lovely time as we always do!

We can’t wait to do this again soon.
