Activities at Cumberland Grange Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Gosia Maliga

Activities Coordinator

I have been in the care sector since 2008, and I also have a degree in teaching. I am here to arrange and run a varied range of activities for our residents to take part in, keep them entertained and enrich their lives. From flower arranging, quizzes, arts and crafts to movies in the cinema, I try to make sure there is something for everyone here to take part in, and tailor events to suit each resident.

NATIONAL RELAXATION DAY

Well, in honour of such a fabulous day, Rachel’s yoga session last week was all about being relaxed. Our residents enjoyed a slow and gentle yoga class with a refreshing foot and facial spritz and some cooling peppermint balm. Perfect and very welcomed in this heat.

As today is the official day for National Relaxation Day, we also had to make today all about finding our zen. So Gosia our Activities Coordinator turned our cinema room into a meditation lounge where our residents were able to follow a guided meditation session, followed by hand massages and a little snooze.

This was enjoyed so much by our residents that they have requested that we do this on a more regular basis 🥰

NATIONAL PROSECCO DAY

Oh we love to celebrate a National Day here at Cumberland Grange…if you couldn’t tell already!

We couldn’t just have Prosecco on it’s own though. So with HUGE thanks to Quickes Cheese Shop in Newton St Cyres for providing us with a selection of different cheeses from Mature Cheddar to Elderflower and Oak Smoked. Which we thoroughly enjoyed with some local chutneys, crackers and grapes - all washed down with a glass (or two) of Prosecco.

Some of our residents family members joined us for the occasion and we had a lovely afternoon in the garden together which was just lovely.

Getting ready for our Cheese & Prosecco Afternoon

Thank you ever so much to Quickes Cheese Shop for your generous donation of delicious cheeses for our Prosecco & Cheese afternoon this Thursday.

We purchased some yummy chutney to accompany the cheese and our residents stocked up on a few of their favourite bits before we made our way over to the local garden centre for a cup of coffee.

International Beer Day

On Friday last week we celebrated International Beer Day whilst we tuned into Hospital Radio Exeter and listened to Richard and Julia’s show ‘Especially for you’ which was dedicated to us here at Cumberland Grange.

Our residents and their loved ones put in some fantastic requests last week which got us all singing and dancing.

CHEERS to another fun week had by all.

Our residents give their best Life Advice

We asked some of our wonderful residents for their best life advice, and I think it is safe to say, they all have such beautiful hearts.

Some great advice here!

We’re not sure that everyone should start saying their name is Fred though…that might become a little confusing!

CHEERS

Our residents enjoyed a taste of beautiful Spanish wines and nibbles at one of our recent Cheese & Wine Nights.

We love our themed evenings here at Cumberland Grange.
