Activities at Cumberland Grange Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Gosia Maliga

Activities Coordinator

I have been in the care sector since 2008, and I also have a degree in teaching. I am here to arrange and run a varied range of activities for our residents to take part in, keep them entertained and enrich their lives. From flower arranging, quizzes, arts and crafts to movies in the cinema, I try to make sure there is something for everyone here to take part in, and tailor events to suit each resident.

Gentleman’s Club Inauguration at Cumberland Grange

It’s a busy time in the sporting calendar at the moment with the snooker championships and the start of the World Cup, so it seemed like an ideal time for Cumberland Grange to start its brand new Gentleman’s Club.

But the focus is not simply on sport, it’s an opportunity for our male residents to spend some extended time together, exchange interests, stories and have a good laugh!

As it was the inaugural session, we asked for any special requests from those taking part. Unfortunately we weren’t able to meet all of these!, but the request for a couple of dancing girls was fulfilled by our very own Senior Carer Jordon & Activity Coordinator Gosia who performed to the delight of everyone.

After all the excitement, our resident relaxed and had a refreshing glass of beer and some tasty snacks.

Getting Creative

Recently on Memory Lane we have been getting creative making this wonderfully bright and super soft wool pom pom canvas which our residents have loved to touch and feel.

We will be looking at making more sensory items over the coming weeks with our residents help.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CUMBERLAND GRANGE

On Thursday evening this week we celebrated our amazing home turning 1. A whole year of care, love and laughter at Cumberland Grange.

We had the most wonderful night with our residents, their families and friends, as well as many of the professionals who have been apart of our journey since we opened.

There were so many happy faces, lots of laughter, singing and some great dancing!

What an amazing year it has been. We cannot wait to continue welcoming new residents to join our fun and loving home.

I think the photos show perfectly what a great evening we all had together.

Thank you so much to everyone who joined us.

Autumn Time

It’s not autumn without a visit to our favourite farm shop with a spot of pumpkin picking, finished off with a hot chocolate and slice of cake!

SILVER SUNDAY

You may have seen our post last week about our Silver Sunday Hampers…well yesterday our Home Services Advisor Mica and Resident Maureen went along to Age UK Exeter to deliver them.

They met with the wonderful Chief Executive Nicky and Enabling & Home Support Service Manager Karen, to hand over the goodies for distribution.

This team work so incredibly hard to support our community day in and day out, so to be able to put these hampers together for them meant everything and more.

Thank you so much Age UK Exeter for all you do. It is an absolute pleasure to support one another.

& of course with huge thanks once again to Luscombe Drinks for also being apart of this and contributing some of your amazing drinks for the hampers. So incredibly kind.

Baking people happy!

Starting the week off the right way and that’s with cake and lots of it.

Our bistro area is always stocked up with lots of goodies for our residents and visitors to snack on throughout the day! Perfectly modelled by our Senior Carer Jordon (who also happens to be our Employee of the month - well done Jordon)

Todays cake flavour is Carrot Cake, YUM.
