Activities at Cumberland Grange Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Gosia Maliga

Activities Coordinator

I have been in the care sector since 2008, and I also have a degree in teaching. I am here to arrange and run a varied range of activities for our residents to take part in, keep them entertained and enrich their lives. From flower arranging, quizzes, arts and crafts to movies in the cinema, I try to make sure there is something for everyone here to take part in, and tailor events to suit each resident.

Charity Summer Fete

On Saturday the 30th July we held a Summer Fete here at Cumberland Grange to help us raise money for the RD&E Charity - The Starfish Appeal.

Here are a few photos at the start of the event. We were blown away with how many people turned up throughout the day.

A special thank you to The Deputy Lord Mayor of Exeter, Councillor Rob Newby for joining us, along with all of the community, stall holders and amazing singers. Hospital Radio Exeter’s Julia being one of the incredibly talented singers.

The children loved the bouncy castle and face painting thanks to D&M's Disco, Wedding & Party Specialists and Nutty Nuts - Face Painting and Glitter Bar - it was so fabulous to have you with us and make the day even better.

Everyone was kept well fed with our BBQ and sweet treats by Happiness is Homebaked and Treats R Yummy.

& thank you so much to The Beauty Lounge in Topsham, Veg Box Cafe, Illumine Candle Co., Tesco and Waitrose & Partners for your very kind donations to the raffle.

We had such a lovely day raising money for such an amazing charity.

Living Memories

A couple of weeks ago, we had a wonderful visit from Paul Boult who is the Non Executive Director of Living Memories Community Interest Company who have produced Tea and Memories sessions to help create conversation and aid the well-being of older people.

Paul is also a member of Isca Church here in the local community, who with his wife Veronica help head up ministry for older people and particularly those who are lonely.

We can’t wait to welcome Paul back to Cumberland Grange to deliver a Tea and Memories sessions to our residents

SEW IT, DON’T THROW IT

On the last Thursday of every month we have our Community Cafe as well as being lucky enough to have the wonderful Jane from Remade Charity here running her Sew It, Don’t Throw It workshop.

As you can see we had lots of fun this morning finishing off our lavender bags.

Thank you to everyone who came along today, it was so wonderful to see you all.

Scrabble in the sunshine

The kind of game that requires an umpire, or at least it does if you play here (Gosia likes to make up her own words…!).

A lovely afternoon together.

NATIONAL ICE CREAM DAY

Ice creams on a hot and sunny day, YES PLEASE!

With temperatures at a high, what could be more refreshing than an ice cream (or two).

Gosia our Activities Co-Ordinator loaded up the trolly with lots of goodies and walked through the home with the traditional ice cream van tune playing in the background which brought back lots of happy memories.

Supporting our local community fun day event

On Saturday the 16th, Home Services Advisor Mica and one of our wonderful residents Maureen went along to Pinhoe’s Community Fun Day Event which Cumberland Grange have sponsored for a second year running.

They had a fantastic afternoon chatting with lots of different people and being a part of a wonderful community event.
