Activities at Cumberland Grange Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Gosia Maliga

Activities Coordinator

I have been in the care sector since 2008, and I also have a degree in teaching. I am here to arrange and run a varied range of activities for our residents to take part in, keep them entertained and enrich their lives. From flower arranging, quizzes, arts and crafts to movies in the cinema, I try to make sure there is something for everyone here to take part in, and tailor events to suit each resident.

Devon Link Up receive £500 from Barchester Charitable Foundation

Last week we had the absolute pleasure of welcoming Jo and Anne from Devon Link Up to Cumberland Grange so that we could present them with their £500 cheque which they were granted by Barchester’s Charitable Foundation. A M A Z I N G.

Devon Link Up is a truly wonderful charity that supports people who live in Devon with learning disabilities and autism.

This money will enable them to do so much, and continue doing such an incredible job for those who use their services.

Anne kindly gifted us a freshly picked pumpkin and some dried flowers, all harvested from their community garden (which we cannot wait to go and visit soon). Our Head Chef Chris is going to make a delicious pumpkin soup for us all to enjoy so thank you Devon Link Up!

We can’t wait to support this fantastic charity even further. Please check out their Facebook page and join us in supporting all of the wonderful work they do.

Silver Sunday Hamper Preparation

Thank you SO much to Luscombe Drinks for contributing towards our Silver Sunday Hampers which we have put together and will be dropping off to Age UK Exeter.

As you can see, some of our residents were overjoyed with your generosity.

Silver Sunday is ‘The national day for older people’ with the aim to combat loneliness. So we have put together some goodies which our local Age UK will find wonderful homes for.

For more information on this fantastic day and how you can get involved, visit https://silversunday.org.uk

Supporting your local community now more than ever is so incredibly important, so it is with our greatest pleasure to be able to do something for this national day - so thank you once again Luscombe Drinks.

Team work!

Grandparents Day

Did you know that this Sunday, October the 2nd is Grandparents Day?

Well today, our fabulous resident Maureen and Home Services Advisor Mica popped over to Monkerton Community Primary School to deliver some lovely ‘Happy Grandparents Day’ colouring in cards so that some of the children could write a lovely card out for their very own Grandparents to give them.

We also took along some wonderful books which give a beautiful story about a young girl and a young boy, visiting their Gran and Grandad in their care home for the first time.

We hope you enjoy your cards and books Monkerton Community Primary School.

A final tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

As a final tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, our staff and residents wanted to do something really special in her honour. We planted two rose plants, one beautiful Queen Elizabeth II specific pink rose and one red rose for her dearly loved Prince Philip. We toasted a glass and spent time reminiscing on all of the amazing things our beloved Queen has done and achieved.

We will keep the lovely memories of Queen Elizabeth II in our hearts forever.

The Lord Mayor of Exeter visits residents with books of condolence

What a heartwarming final farewell to Queen Elizabeth II yesterday. Our residents and staff spent the day together watching her beautiful funeral 🕊

Last week, The Lord Mayor of Exeter came to visit us here at Cumberland Grange with books of condolence for Her Majesty The Queen. Our residents and staff were so very honoured to have her join us. During what has been a very emotional time for many of our residents, The Lord Mayors incredible act of kindness in coming to visit us, allowed our residents to feel apart of our amazing community here in Exeter.

BBC Spotlight also came along to capture such special moments.

Thank you all so very much for choosing Cumberland Grange. What a privilege.
