Activities at The Dales Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Kay Thompson

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Kay and I am the activities coordinator here at the Dales.  I joined the team in June 2021 and I love spending time with the residents each day, delivering meaningful activities that keep our residents active and social stimulated, more importantly we have fun!  Our life enrichment programme is varied and we have lots to do!

Before I joined the home I was a lecturer teaching young individuals with high needs, it is very different being an activities coordinator but it does help with understand how to ensure everyone is happy each and every day in everything that we do.

I look forward to meeting you when you visit our home.

Life at The Dales Care Home

Home presents cheque to local Foodbank

The Dales care home in Draughton recently presented a cheque for £775.00 to Skipton Food Bank. The Food Bank supplies emergency food parcels to people who are struggling to feed themselves or their families.  They work with local support agencies who refer people to us who are in need of food support.  They ask people to be referred each time they need a parcel.

The Great Dales Bake Off!

Excitement was running high at The Dales Care Home in Draughton where residents, staff, family and friends have been cooking up a storm to enter ‘The Great Dales Bake Off’ competition.  Details of the competition were announced earlier this year and everyone has been busy coming up with, what they hope, will be a winning.

The competition was run by The Dales care homes with residents’ family, staff and the local community. Pride was at stake as everyone was battling it out.  Judging took place on this week and three awards were given after voting was counted.  Staff, residents, family and friends at our home put their heads together and donned their aprons to come up with a scrumptious cake that they think encapsulates the best flavours.  The fabulous cakes consisted of delicious ingredients such as chocolate, ginger, carrots, lemons and much more.

Fun Fireworks

It may of been a day after Bonfire Night but we still fully enjoyed our fireworks display here at The Dales. Wonderful warm food of pie and mushy peas to start with followed with a tasty pudding and then we were ready for the display!

Thank you to our chef Kevin Green for putting the wonderful colours and sparkles together for us! Enjoyed by everyone!

A lovely morning here at The Dales with Jane from Rural Arts! Back working with clay creating some mini pumpkins and getting the Halloween feeling!  Towards the end of next month we’ll be using more clay and making some winter/Christmas creatures!

Home presents cheque to local charity

The Dales care home in Draughton recently presented Inspire Highfield with a cheque for £1165.00. They are a user-led group set up and established to combat growing health issues, not only but especially those which were highlighted in the 2011 census. They, as a group, encourage positive behavioural changes in relation to health and wellbeing. They have successfully completed projects like Winter Warmth, where we organized coffee mornings for over65's isolated during the winter months, and activities designed to encourage people to share and celebrate their cultural heritage.

They have completed many projects which were funded by Leeds Community - like Northern gas partnering fund, Holiday hunger project, winter warmth fund. They wish to continue to work to combat mental health provision in a non-clinical way.
