Activities at The Dales Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Kay Thompson
Hi, my name is Kay and I am the activities coordinator here at the Dales. I joined the team in June 2021 and I love spending time with the residents each day, delivering meaningful activities that keep our residents active and social stimulated, more importantly we have fun! Our life enrichment programme is varied and we have lots to do!
Before I joined the home I was a lecturer teaching young individuals with high needs, it is very different being an activities coordinator but it does help with understand how to ensure everyone is happy each and every day in everything that we do.
I look forward to meeting you when you visit our home.

Life at The Dales Care Home
Gingerbread House Day
Staff and residents at Barchester’s The Dales care home in Draughton love any excuse to get creative so when they found out it was Gingerbread House Day on December 12, they didn’t need any persuading to get cracking!
The staff and residents put together some ready-made gingerbread shapes using some icing, we then did some decorating with more icing, dolly mixture, candy canes and edible glitter to make some of the glitziest gingerbread houses in town.
Kathleen Postil, a resident said: “I haven’t made a ginger bread house before! The houses look really lovely, what a fun way to spend a morning, the staff here are fantastic, always thinking of creative ways to keep us busy.”

The Great Dales Bake Off!
Excitement was running high at The Dales Care Home in Draughton where residents, staff, family and friends have been cooking up a storm to enter ‘The Great Dales Bake Off’ competition. Details of the competition were announced earlier this year and everyone has been busy coming up with, what they hope, will be a winning.
The competition was run by The Dales care homes with residents’ family, staff and the local community. Pride was at stake as everyone was battling it out. Judging took place on this week and three awards were given after voting was counted. Staff, residents, family and friends at our home put their heads together and donned their aprons to come up with a scrumptious cake that they think encapsulates the best flavours. The fabulous cakes consisted of delicious ingredients such as chocolate, ginger, carrots, lemons and much more.
Remembrance Sunday
A lovely church service for Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday. Reverend Doug from our local church – The Holy Trinity in Skipton came along to give a wonder service for residents, staff and residents family and friends. Respects were given in remembrance of all who served for their country. Lest We Forget!
Reverend Doug will be with us again for our Christmas service next month, everyone is welcome.
Fun Fireworks
It may of been a day after Bonfire Night but we still fully enjoyed our fireworks display here at The Dales. Wonderful warm food of pie and mushy peas to start with followed with a tasty pudding and then we were ready for the display!
Thank you to our chef Kevin Green for putting the wonderful colours and sparkles together for us! Enjoyed by everyone!
Pumpkin creation
A lovely morning here at The Dales with Jane from Rural Arts! Back working with clay creating some mini pumpkins and getting the Halloween feeling! Towards the end of next month we’ll be using more clay and making some winter/Christmas creatures!
