Activities at Denmead Grange Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we won’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our activities team is dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Vicky Burgess

Activities Co-Ordinator

Being Head of life enrichment is not a job it is a passion. Vicky has been working in the health and social care sector for 23 years. Vicky has already been working at Denmead Grange for a year as a valued Senior Carer. Vicky already has extensive knowledge about the home and our residents which means she already has an insight into what the resident enjoy. Vicky is looking forward to her role as she believes that Life Enrichment is a truly rewarding role where she can ensure everyday is meaningful to the people we care for. My aim is to ensure that our residents get to continue doing the things they love, trying new things and extending their skills and knowledge. My goal each day is to bring enjoyment, laughter and smiles to everyone at Denmead Grange!

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Denmead Grange Care Home

Gin Tasting with a view

Today we enjoyed trying a selection of Gin cocktails and homemade canapés prepared by our wonderful Head Chef Craig! We listened to our favourite songs whilst enjoying the refreshments.

The residents spent time talking about their favourite drinks and memories of garden parties and dancing.

We were able to enjoy the sunshine and the views of our beautiful gardens

We are very much looking forward to the warm weather and more fun outdoors.

Time for a Cuppa

We are proud to have supported Time for a Cuppa - Dementia UK

Our wonderful staff made and donated cakes (most also donated and ate!)

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone that supported us and helped raise vital funds for such a worthwhile cause. The money raised supported an Admiral Dementia Nurse.

Gents Day Out

What a wonderful adventure we had today!

We were welcomed Southampton Solent Sky Museum like old friends.

Our gents gazed in wonder at the size of the planes and information available. It also prompted lots of reminiscing. Bill proudly explained the ranks of the RAFs to us!

They have already requested another visit!

Doris Days Birthday

We celebrated one of our favourites birthday. The one and only Doris Day. We spent the morning singing along to classics such as When you’re smiling, Que Sera, Sera and The Deadwood Stage. As requested we spent the afternoon watching Calamity Jane, Which of course prompted yet more singing!

Exercise Class

Exercise is an important part of life at Denmead.

It can reduce the risks of falls due to improved strength and balance, improve mood and can improve memory to name just a few.

It also gives us a chance to get together and have fun.

This week we added Pom poms, which prompted lots of laughter. We do a seated exercise class twice a week, but most of our activities has some sort of physical aspect to it. We do like to keep moving!

In the Garden

As soon as the sun is out we all head outside. The residents always request for music to be playing. There are drinks, snacks and dancing and as always it’s a whole home approach. All members of staff get involved. Even being outside for as little as 10 – 15 minutes each day has been shown to improve mood, reduce agitation and enhance sleep patterns.
