Activities at Derham House Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Kay Thompson
I have worked in the care sector for many years. I am fully trained in dementia awareness, and I have also trained as a dignity champion. I have been working here at Derham House since March 2019, and I am really enjoying my role here.

Life at Derham House Care Home
The Pianist
We had lots of fun singing along to the piano tunes as a resident played. We sang some classics, such as 'My Old Man', 'We’ll meet Again' and 'Daisy Daisy'.
Another Chance at Happiness
We recently said goodbye to one of our most valued & much-loved residents.
She has spent two years with us and, in that time, we have had some great times with her. She was such a compassionate lady, and was always looking after people least fortunate than her.
All the staff at Derham will miss her loads, but are happy that she has another chance at happiness. We wish her the best of luck, but she will not be getting rid of us that easily, as we will be jumping on the minibus to grab some coffee with her in the near future.
For the Love of Music
We welcomed back one of our favorite singers—Robert Jerome—into our home. Residents and their loved ones came together with a few glasses of wine to enjoy Roberts’s music, and some even got a cheeky kiss in!
Pizza House
Residents enjoyed making pizza here at Derham House. Although reluctant at first, the ladies enjoyed making the dough and eating the toppings as they went along.
Macmillan Coffee Morning
We took part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning. Staff wore the colours of a charity of their choice, and residents enjoyed some lovely cakes and other refreshments.
To finish the morning off, residents played some fun games and, all in all, we had a fantastic morning & managed to raise over £65.
Well done to everyone involved!
World Cup Fever
Residents were eager to watch England's quarter-final match with Sweden, so much so that two ladies actually agreed to have St George's Cross painted on them!
