Activities at Derham House Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Kay Thompson
I have worked in the care sector for many years. I am fully trained in dementia awareness, and I have also trained as a dignity champion. I have been working here at Derham House since March 2019, and I am really enjoying my role here.

Life at Derham House Care Home
Pet Therapy with Grace
We enjoyed our weekly visit from Grace the dog at Derham House. She is very popular with all the residents, who enjoy her bubbly personality.
Pet therapy brings some of the residents out of their shells, who would not normally get involved in activities otherwise.
Flower Power
We hosted a flower arranging session in the garden room whilst enjoying cheese and wine. Our beautiful flowers were donated by Sainsbury's in Hornchurch, as always, and we are very grateful to them for their genrosity.
Cheese & Wine Time
We had a cheese board with crackers and lots of wine going around Derham House recently. There were a large variety of cheese and wines for residents to choose from whilst doing other activities in our garden room.
A Few Tunes on the Piano
A resident played a few tunes on the piano to the delight of other residents in the lounge, who sang along with the ones they new.
Play Your Cards Right
Residents on both the Bridge and Foxhall units came together to join in with games and enjoyed a glass of wine or two and some cake. There were two winners at the end who shared a prize.
Morning Mass
A couple of residents went to the local catholic church in Upminster for morning mass. They took part in receiving holy communion and also lit some candles for loved ones.
