Activities at Derham House Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

I have worked in the care sector for many years. I am fully trained in dementia awareness, and I have also trained as a dignity champion. I have been working here at Derham House since March 2019, and I am really enjoying my role here.

Life at Derham House Care Home
Lakeside Shopping
Derham house enjoyed a trip to Lakeside shopping centre. The shopping was lovely. We started off with lunch as one of the ladies wanted to have her favourite dish - pie & mash, whilst another lady had pie for the first time.
Then we had a stroll from shop to shop trying on silly glasses & hats. how funny the ladies even managed to grab a bargain in Primark.
Arts & Crafts Afternoon
This month at Derham house the residents enjoyed an arts & crafts afternoon. We had fun drawing different animals.
One lady who used to be an art teacher drew a beautiful parakeet & a butterfly, which are animals that we see every day at our lovely home.
The residents love the arts & crafts days, and now the weather is changing for the better, we are planning some arts outside in the grounds.
Diamond Wedding Anniversary
We had the pleasure of celebrating a diamond wedding anniversary. Her husband told us that he was coming in to have lunch with her, so we surprised both of them & got in touch with the family, who were happy to be in on the surprise.
We laid on a special buffet with champagne flowers, a lovely fruit platter and, to top it off, a beautiful cake. The activity team decorated the room with balloons and bunting, and dressed the table for lunch with their best china set and the happy couple's wedding photo.
They were very surprised, not only with the way the room was decorated, but with having the family joining them for their special day.
It was a wonderful day for everyone involved!
Emergency Services Visit
We opened our doors for our emergency services personnel, who stopped by on their lunch break for some coffee and cake.
Our emergency services provide so much for our community, so we at Derham House wanted to give back & say a big thank you.
Mother's Day Special
Residents were entertained when the talented James Cowdery came along to entertain us for Mother's Day.
Aqua Painting
Residents really had some fun and loved ones were amazed when the images faded as they dried.
