Activities at Derham House Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Kay Thompson
I have worked in the care sector for many years. I am fully trained in dementia awareness, and I have also trained as a dignity champion. I have been working here at Derham House since March 2019, and I am really enjoying my role here.

Halloween
Staff and residents got dressed up to celebrate Halloween whilst listening to a thrilling song list over a glass of wine, and baked 'snot' and 'blood' fairy cakes!
We also had pet therapy with Grace the dog dressed in bandages as the 'Mummy Chihuahua'
Everyone had a spooky time!

Light Sensory Therapy
Residents enjoyed light sensory therapy with calming music and it's really been putting a smile on their faces.
Going forward, we will be continuing with this on a more regular basis.

Bird Feeder
We made bird feeders using Cheerios and string. Residents enjoyed making these and, once they had finished, we hung them on the trees in our field and then spotted several blue tits and a woodpecker enjoying the treats. The squirrels loved them too!

Celebrating 10 & 15 Years
Two members of our staff at Derham House are celebrating their time working for Barchester.
Vivien Vernon, who is one of our fantastic Nurses on Memory Lane, has been with us for over 15 years; and Joanne Owens, our Admin Receptionist, who started as a Healthcare Assistant, has been with us for 10 years.
They are both very much appreciated by everyone who works alongside them and by residents and their loved ones.
Well done, both!

Wearing Pink for Breast Cancer
We wore pink for breast cancer awareness. Joanne, our Admin Receptionist, baked some cakes with pink icing, which were divine. We all had a mini tea party in the reception area, listening to classical music.

Barchester's 25th Anniversary
We opened our doors to the public to celebrate Barchester's 25th anniversary with a fantastic party.
As the theme was silver, everyone got glammed up in their best silver attire – staff included!
We enjoyed our vocalist, Carly Anne Hipson, who sang through the decades, and residents had a great time singing & dancing along.
There was a beautiful spread on the open buffet, which included smoked salmon, sandwiches, pastries, cheese boards & cakes, which were all washed down with lots of wine and other beverages.
