Activities at Drummond Grange Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Katie Nicolson
Katie Nicolson is our Head of activities here at Drummond since August 2023 beforehand she worked as an activity assistant in the home for two years. Before coming to Drummond Katie has worked in many care roles over the years and studied Psychology and Sociology at Queen Margaret’s University and was awarded a Degree of Bachelor of science in Psychology and Sociology at the start of 2022. Katie loves being part of the Activity department here at Drummond Grange and bringing new and exciting opportunities and experiences to the residents. When she’s not at work Katie is a local Girl Guide leader and youth leader for her churches youth group.

Life at Drummond Grange Care Home
Celebrating Success Party
On 28th November, staff at Drummond grange enjoyed a 'Celebrating Success' party. We had good cause to celebrate, with the Care Inspectorate giving us 5s across the board, and various staff members passing their Care Practitioner and SVQ exams.
Well done, everyone!
Halloween Disco
Residents and staff enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon when we hosted a Halloween disco. Residents got their faces painted by staff – some were so realistic!
Butterfly World
Last week one of our younger residents went to Dobbies Butterfly World on a 1-2-1 outing with Laura from the activity team to see all of the butterflies and insects.
On Your Bike!
We headed out with 4 residents to the All Ability Bike Centre in Edinburgh. Everyone had a great time!
Hydrotherapy Swimming
Here at Drummond Grange, some residents have been enjoying going to the hydrotherapy pool at the Dalkeith Campus. When we first spoke about the idea, we had a group of potentially 5 residents wishing to go, now we have at least 18 wanting to attend on a regular basis.
Hoedown
We had a hoedown at our annual BBQ and residents enjoyed the day, despite the threat of rain. Chrystal FM, one the local radio stations, chose and introduced the music of the day. At the Hoedown, we had a Bucking Bronco, inflatable assault course, and a bouncy castle for the younger generation.
