Activities at Edingley Lodge Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Indian Independance day

Residents and staff at Edingley Lodge marked the 77th Indian Independence Day which took place on August 15th.

Independence Day is celebrated on August 15th, the anniversary of the day in 1947 when the provisions of the Indian Independence Act, which transferred legislative sovereignty to the Indian Constituent Assembly, came into effect and India gained its Independence from the United Kingdom. It is a public holiday in India. The Prime Minister raises the red national flag of India and addresses the nation.

Residents watched videos of celebrations across India and travelled virtually to famous sites in India.  Those residents who had visited India previously shared their experiences of their trips.  Head chef  put on a fabulous spread of delicious Indian dishes including a variety of different curries with samosas, bhajis, pakora, kofta, papdum, naan, with raita, lime pickle and mango chutney all washed down with lots of delicious hot tea.

Summer BBQ

Staff, residents, relatives and the local community came together at Edingley Lodge to enjoy a community BBQ that was held in the home’s grounds on 4th August 2023.

The hospitality team at Edingley Lodge served a selection of BBQ favourites including BBQ chicken, corn on the cob, vegetable and chicken skewers which were enjoyed by everyone who came to the event.

Guests included friends and family to the residents and staff at the home, and the local emergency services personnel also stopped in at the event. The team at the home also invited local singer Russel Weaver who performed a range of classic hits including 50’s  and 70’s, which many of the guests sang along to.

The Residents said, “I thoroughly enjoyed the day surrounded by lots of great people. Thankfully the weather held out until we finished. Staff did a great job, not just on the day, but organising the event and getting everyone together.”

Sunday Fun day at Edingley Lodge

Our residents love a baking session especially on Sunday morning.
Today we made some delicious treats for our afternoon tea. Residents baked and decorated cupcakes and it's safe to say they were thoroughly enjoyed!
The ladies enjoyed chatting about the home baked food they cooked for their families. A Sunday was a popular baking day where pies were baked by the dozen.
We find this kind of activity always great for social interaction and who doesn't love cake?!

Herstory of Mayfair

Residents across our services had a fantastic time joining Mandy Morrow for a virtual walking tour to learn about the ‘Herstory’ of Mayfair. The Mayfair of Nightingales may be long gone but it still holds a 20th century charm. Birthplace to the late Queen Elizabeth II, home to one of WWII's most decorated female war heroes and a tale of a wealthy Aristocrat and one of France's favourite designers.

We were delighted to take a walk down memory lane and discover stories from one of London's most iconic areas.  The experience was truly enjoyed by all.
