Activities at Epsom Beaumont Care Home

At Epsom Beaumont, the daily activities always aim to be enjoyable for all. Our Activities Coordinator is constantly working to mentally and physically stimulate each resident and ensuring that our programme is define moulded to the wants and needs of those we support. We host weekly outings to many local coffee shops, and also some bigger trips to Brighton and the Brooklands Museum. Our outings tend to be a new and exciting experience for residents, but are sometimes repeated for those who could not make the trip the first time. The activity schedule changes weekly, but there are some regularities, such as our crossword and bar nights, where families are invited to join their loved ones for a social evening. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home and we are proud to say we have a dedicated Activities Coordinator who is supported by all of the care team to really make it successful. We have received excellent feedback from residents and relatives, which only makes our bond with them stronger.

Louisa Capaldi

Activities Coordinator

I always said when I started working I wanted to have a rewarding job that puts a smile on people’s faces and makes their day just that little bit brighter! I started working in the care sector as a hospitality Assistant, and then became a carer and then the activities coordinator. I really enjoy getting the residents up and moving, and getting active. I enjoy learning new things about the residents and doing meaningful activities with them that they enjoy and benefit from.

Care Home Catering Awards Finalist!

We are delighted to announce that our Head Chef, Gulcin Sinar, has been named a finalist in this years Care Home Catering Awards.

Judges had a difficult time whittling down the entries for this year's awards, with nominations praising talented chefs and committed colleagues coming in from across the country.

The five winners, in categories including Chef of the Year and the Above and Beyond Special Award, will be announced at our Care Home and Hospital Catering Forum 2022, which will be held on Monday 13 June at Haberdashers Hall in London.

"We were impressed by the quality of nominations for this year's awards, some of which detailed personal sacrificies made by caterers during the pandemic," says Lauren Fitchett, editor of Care Home Catering.

Pancake Day

The staff and residents at Epsom Beaumont Nursing Home in Epsom, have been flipping and turning pancakes all morning in preparation for their annual Shrove Tuesday pancake race.

We marked this year’s Pancake Day with a pancake tossing competition and of course, lots of pancakes! Gulcin Sinar, Head Chef at the home, flipped more than 100 pancakes, serving them up with sweet and savoury fillings.

She said: “My secret to the best pancakes is all in the whipping. Give it some elbow grease when mixing the batter and you’ll get perfect pancakes every time. I like experimenting with the fillings – the residents’ favourites are spinach and cheese, chocolate spread and banana and of course, good old fashioned lemon and sugar!”

Pet Therapy Sessions

We were delighted to welcome a number of furry friends to Epsom Beaumont last week for our Pet Therapy Sessions. We were joined by a French Pug, a Cheshire Cat and some rabbits.

General Manager, Mark Chakravarti, said: “Our residents have really enjoyed their unusual visitors today.  We knew that having our Pet therapy sessions here would be a bit of fun for all our residents, especially as some find it difficult to go on many outings in our minibus.  We are always looking for new activities for the residents and today we have seen the seen the enjoyment and the therapeutic influence animals can have on people.”

Resident, Alexandra, was very excited and touched by the pet therapy animals: “As a child I used to love all the animals on the nearby farm. Today was very enjoyable and it was wonderful that the animals were free to roam amongst us.”

Chair Yoga

Our residents really enjoy the chair yoga classes we hold at the home. When caring for a loved one with dementia, it’s important to find engaging activities to help keep them active. Thankfully, chair yoga is a great option!

There are benefits of chair yoga for everyone. It’s an opportunity to stretch, strengthen, and improve flexibility with the safety of a stable chair for balance. It also provides important breathing and relaxation techniques through stationary poses and guided relaxation of various muscle groups.

Chair Aerobics

Keeping active, both physically and mentally is very important at Epsom Beaumont and it's no surprise that our weekly chair aerobics class is one of our favourite weekly activities, giving us an opportunity to stretch and unwind.
