Activities at Epsom Beaumont Care Home
At Epsom Beaumont, the daily activities always aim to be enjoyable for all. Our Activities Coordinator is constantly working to mentally and physically stimulate each resident and ensuring that our programme is define moulded to the wants and needs of those we support. We host weekly outings to many local coffee shops, and also some bigger trips to Brighton and the Brooklands Museum. Our outings tend to be a new and exciting experience for residents, but are sometimes repeated for those who could not make the trip the first time. The activity schedule changes weekly, but there are some regularities, such as our crossword and bar nights, where families are invited to join their loved ones for a social evening. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home and we are proud to say we have a dedicated Activities Coordinator who is supported by all of the care team to really make it successful. We have received excellent feedback from residents and relatives, which only makes our bond with them stronger.

I always said when I started working I wanted to have a rewarding job that puts a smile on people’s faces and makes their day just that little bit brighter! I started working in the care sector as a hospitality Assistant, and then became a carer and then the activities coordinator. I really enjoy getting the residents up and moving, and getting active. I enjoy learning new things about the residents and doing meaningful activities with them that they enjoy and benefit from.

Life at Epsom Beaumont Care Home
Ice Cream at Epsom Downs Racecourse
Residents at Epsom Beaumont Care Home enjoyed a minibus trip to Epsom Downs Racecourse. They enjoyed a lovely stroll on the downs, followed by a delicious Mr Whippy Ice cream in the sunshine. June, a resident at Epsom Beaumont said “ I was so excited to go out in our brand new minibus, I have so many special memories at the downs and it was so lovely to go and enjoy an afternoon stroll and stop at the ice cream van! We all had such a wonderful afternoon”
Mum and Baby Group
Every month we host an intergenerational movement to music class with Baby Boppers by Bella &Boo. Local Mums, Dads and their babies come along to Epsom Beaumont Care Home to enjoy singing and music with the residents at the home. This month’s session took place on Tuesday 23rd July, The group enjoyed singing along with residents to their favourite songs such as the wheels on the bus and five little ducks. Madge, resident at Epsom Beaumont said “I always look forward to our monthly Mum&Baby group and seeing the babies and having a cuddle. I am looking forward to next months session”
Wimbledon Celebrations
Residents and staff at Epsom Beaumont care home were ready for the start of Wimbledon on July 1st with delicious strawberries and cream, all washed down with a glass of Pimms. Tennis fans got together to watch the matches and celebrated by having afternoon tea whipped up by head chef, Rostom Abidi. Everyone enjoyed traditional Wimbledon-inspired strawberry and cream treats. Ellie Lyons, General Manager at the home, said: “We’ve had a fantastic time celebrating the return of Wimbledon, it is always a firm favourite with our residents. We have all loved every minute!”
Let’s get moving!
Staff and residents at Epsom Beaumont got moving and put the ‘fun’ into ‘fundraising’ with a sponsored Intergenerational Dance-a-thon, slow yoga, strolls around the garden and a boxing class to raise money for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation.
Established in 2000, the Foundation does invaluable work supporting older people and other adults living with a disability or mental health problems by helping them to connect or re-connect with others in their local communities. Last year the Foundation achieved a donation milestone of £225,000 which enabled the charity to provide vital help to a staggering 160 small groups and charities, plus 87 individuals in one year alone.
To help boost the Foundation’s coffers in 2024, on 20th June staff and residents at the home invited family, friends and members of the community to join them to take part in our sponsored dance-a-thon with Katie Taborn from Pipsqueaks Performing Arts Parties & Classes. The themed of the dance-a-thon was the 80s, everyone got their disco outfits on and enjoyed dancing the afternoon away!. Everyone came together to Get Moving and helped to raise money for this fantastic cause.
Ellie Lyons, General Manager at Epsom Beaumont said: “We had the most wonderful day, it was so lovely to see everyone come together to take part and raise such a brilliant amount of money for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation, it is a great charity that helps many people in need, particularly lonely older people, which is a cause very close to our hearts. Plus it’s good for our own wellbeing to move as much as we can. We want to say massive thanks to everyone involved, we all had so much fun and we helped raise vital funds into the bargain!”
Florence goes back to the Italia Conti
Florence Gomez, a resident at Epsom Beaumont, used to dance for the Italia Conti in London. Founded in 1911, the Italia Conti is one of the leading Performing Arts institutions in the country. It provides Performing Arts Training for students to become versatile and valuable members of the theatrical profession. On Tuesday 18th June, Florence had the amazing opportunity to go back to the Italia Conti and relive her dancing days.
Florence is now 98 years old, she danced at the Italia Conti from the age of 8 until 15 years old. During her time there Florence was selected by a film company to dance in the film ‘The Land Without Music’. She learnt ballet and even had the opportunity to perform for the founder, Miss Italia Conti herself. Unfortunately, aged 15, Florence was evacuated because of the war, but she always kept her passion for dancing throughout her life, and still dances now.
On arrival, Florence was greeted by principal and CEO, Hayley Newton-Jarvis. Hayley was very interested to meet Florence and learn about her past, she was amazed to learn that Florence had the privilege to meet Miss Italia Conti and perform for her 90 years ago. Florence and Louisa were then invited to watch a ballet class with the students at the Italia Conti.
Florence said: “It was so lovely to be able to observe the ballet class, the girls danced beautifully! I was very impressed. I am so grateful to have had this amazing opportunity to visit the Italia Conti again, and revisit my past and love of dancing” Louisa Capaldi, Activity Coordinator at the home, said: “We know how much Florence loves dancing and we wanted to do something really special for her to help her relive all the happy memories she had at the Italia Conti. It was so nice to see how happy this made Florence.”
Professionals Breakfast
From 8am-10am on Wednesday 12th June local professionals came together in the homes lounge to network over a selection of pastries, bacon sandwiches and fresh fruits. The local Professionals were amazed with the delicious spread put on by Head Chef, Rostom Abidi. Epsom Beaumont Care Home is keen to be part of the community and our regular Professional breakfast meetings allow individuals to meet and connect with one another. It’s a great chance to share experiences, make new contacts within the community, and of course, enjoy our wonderful spread provided by our hospitality team!
