Activities at Fairview House Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators create a weekly planner that consists of a variety of activities, which caters to all residents' needs as best as possible. The most popular activities are bingo, which we host twice a week, flower arranging and weekly visits from Vinnie our pet therapy dog. Residents also enjoy minibus trips in the nicer weather and we attend a concert every month. We are also involved in the Council Well-being Team, which keeps us up-to date with upcoming events within the community and provides interesting ideas for activities we can try in the home.

Throughout the year, we host various special events, including themed open days and summer and winter fetes that people in our local communities are welcome to join us for. We also have monthly church services with Rev. Ann from Danestone Congregational Church, which is open to loved ones as well.

Life at Fairview House Care Home

Bird business

Jack and Vera are continuing to be trained. They have had a fun filled month. We have been letting them out for “flying sessions” which residents love to see. Sometimes they have too much fun and refuse to go back into their cage! Thankfully we have our residents nearby to lure them into their cage with a tasty treat!

Pizza making treat

Pizza is a very popular food and residents really enjoy them too. This month they held a pizza making activity one afternoon, when a small group designed their very own Italian themed dinner.

Each resident was given a pizza base, tomato puree to smother onto it and a selection of toppings including red, green and yellow peppers, a choice of three different salamis and grated mozzarella cheese.

Each resident chopped up their own peppers then arranged them beautifully onto the base, finishing them off with salami and a sprinkle of cheese. The pizzas were them wrapped in cling film and given to the kitchen to be cooked later on for the residents evening meal.

Families reunite

For some residents at Fairview the long awaited reunion with family and friends became a reality recently, as garden visits have now been allowed to commence at the home.

It was welcome news to so many residents, family, and friends, who were kept apart for so long following strict government guidance. Residents and their loved ones got together in the home garden and the garden was fully of joy and chatter.

Arlene Campbell General Manager at the home, said: “This has been a much welcomed development in what have been very strange times. The visits are safe and organised, and it was wonderful to see how happy it made the residents. We will of course endeavour to keep up the high standards of care, and continue with our ever evolving life enrichment programme, to keep residents engaged. But this was a lovely day.”

Birthday celebrations

What a wonderful weekend “our” Sandy had on the 20th June. Resident, Alexander Strachan who has 5 daughters (June, Adeline, Helen, Sandra and Linda) celebrated his 89th birthday with cake, candles and presents, staff made it a fun happy day for Sandy and he enjoyed video calls to his daughters, on father’s day the cards and presents kept flowing for this very much loved father and grandfather. With more video calls to his daughters this weekend was very special for Sandy and his family. The video links allowed his family to come together and celebrate at this difficult time.

Father's Day celebrations

Residents at Fairview enjoyed a special lunch in celebration of Father’s Day.   This year, due to the current situation, family and friends joined in the celebrations virtually via video call. Residents weren’t phased by this however, as they have become quite tech savvy at Skype calls, FaceTime, and online events. These platforms are an invaluable way to keep people connected with loved ones and friends, as well as with the local communities, during these unprecedented times.

One Resident, John was delighted when he spoke with his daughter with a video with cards and presents also being delivered from his son, daughter and grandchildren with the highlight of the day being a special surprise for his tea – fish and chips which he thoroughly enjoyed saying “he’d the best daughter and loves his family very much”

Pet Therapy

Residents of Fairview were delighted to welcome two new residents to the home, Jack & Vera, the two lovebirds, to provide pet therapy with a difference to replace their beloved former budgie, Buddy. The home felt too quiet without buddy and their new found friends brings benefits of animal companionship to the residents by helping to reduce stress and anxiety.
