Activities at Fordmill Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Julia Constandache
I’m Julia and I have been working at Fordmill since December 2016. I really enjoy art and studied Graphic Design & Illustration in Dundee. I love being with people and using my skills to improve their quality of life and bring a smile to their faces through crafts, games and all sorts of other activities.
I plan out the activities, either for groups or individuals, according to specific needs and interests. It’s a real joy to get to know residents and their loved ones and I’m grateful to Barchester for giving me the opportunity to work with them and bring some sunshine into the residents’ lives.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Fordmill Care Home

Big Quiz of the Year
All over the country our care homes and hospitals linked up for Barchester’s Big Quiz of the year!
Residents tested their knowledge with a variety of questions, from historical humdingers and musical musings to pictorial puzzlers and connective conundrums.
Everyone who participated had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.

Meeting the Reindeers
Across our homes we got into the Christmas spirit of things by joining a festive live virtual experience, led by Des and Kelly from Performing Pets.
Our residents were thrilled to meet the charming furry friends and get up close and personal with the reindeers.
We certainly learnt some interesting facts about the animals and had a fantastic time.

Annie the Alpaca visits Fordmill
We love bringing animals into the home and the residents are always so happy. Our residents favourite pet is Annie the lovely domesticated alpaca. Last time Annie came to visit, she was expecting the wee one and we couldn't wait for her to bring her baby to visit us. They arrived in style in their new Alpaca Car and Annie couldn't wait to get inside so she could show off her baby. They brought so much happiness into the home.

Oktoberfest
Residents, family and friends all came to Fordmill to celebrate Oktoberfest with us. We had such a lovely time, the beer and shandies were flowing and the German Bratwurst went down a treat. We listened to traditional German music while everybody enjoyed the social occasion.

Harvest Festival
We celebrated Harvest Festival in a very simple way with lovely buttered hot rolls and a nice glass of wine which went down a treat. The residents enjoyed seeing the Harvest display which brightened up the dining room. Some of our residents were farmers and they loved reminiscing about their own harvest.

World Alzheimer's Day
We have had a lovely afternoon in recognition of World Alzheimer's Day we held our "Forget Me Not" Cafe. Residents gathered together wearing their Forget Me Not flowers with pride, chatting to each other while enjoying a cup of tea and some nice home baked cakes from our new chef Karen. We also welcomed Neil to play some songs on his banjo, guitar and mandolin. It was a really great afternoon!
