Activities at Fordmill Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Julia Constandache

Senior Activities Coordinator

I’m Julia and I have been working at Fordmill since December 2016. I really enjoy art and studied Graphic Design & Illustration in Dundee. I love being with people and using my skills to improve their quality of life and bring a smile to their faces through crafts, games and all sorts of other activities.

I plan out the activities, either for groups or individuals, according to specific needs and interests. It’s a real joy to get to know residents and their loved ones and I’m grateful to Barchester for giving me the opportunity to work with them and bring some sunshine into the residents’ lives.

Life at Fordmill Care Home

,

Harvest Festival

We celebrated Harvest Festival in a very simple way with lovely buttered hot rolls and a nice glass of wine which went down a treat. The residents enjoyed seeing the Harvest display which brightened up the dining room. Some of our residents were farmers and they loved reminiscing about their own harvest.

World Alzheimer's Day

We have had a lovely afternoon in recognition of World Alzheimer's Day we held our "Forget Me Not" Cafe. Residents gathered together wearing their Forget Me Not flowers with pride, chatting to each other while enjoying a cup of tea and some nice home baked cakes from our new chef Karen. We also welcomed Neil to play some songs on his banjo, guitar and mandolin. It was a really great afternoon!

Cheese, Wine and Quiz

We had a lovely afternoon outside in the marquee enjoying a glass of wine and a selection of cheese and biscuits. We had a quiz at the end with a lot of hilarious answers. Everyone had a great time.

Ponies come to visit!

It's not every day you get 2 ponies in your bedroom! Well this afternoon our friends Elaine and John along with Flicker and Wilson visited us and as always brought so much joy into the home. Seeing you both kneeling for hours at every single resident feet or bed with such kindness and patience is heart-warming. Flicker and Wilson are just gorgeous and so well behaved, everyone just loves them. Flicker's new shoes are just lovely such a handsome boy.

Wild life adventure

Wild life adventure for Ethel and Doris this morning to St Cyrus National Nature Reserve. With the help of the Hippocampe Wheelchairs we were able to walk along the fields, a gentle winding path to the estuary bird hide. They both were so excited to see all the changes and the facilities provided for wheelchair users and said it was a memorable adventure that they never thought they will be able to experience again.
