Activities at Fountains Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

FIRST FAMILY BBQ AT FOUNTAINS

We were thrilled to welcome residents, families, and friends to our very first Fountains BBQ, and what better timing than during National BBQ Week! The sun was shining, spirits were high, and the garden was filled with laughter, music, and the delicious aroma of sizzling food.

It was a truly heart-warming day, full of smiles and memory-making as loved ones came together to enjoy great food and even better company.

A big thank you to our amazing Head Chef Anna for preparing such a mouth-watering BBQ spread! A huge appreciation to our fabulous ladies in pink, Louise and Kellie, for organising such a wonderful family-focused event – it couldn’t have gone better!

Together, we created a day to remember.

Residents’ Visit to Kingsbury Water Park

Residents recently enjoyed a delightful outing to Kingsbury Water Park, where they experienced nature at its finest. The trip was filled with breath-taking views from sparkling lakes to close encounters with friendly ducks and a variety of local wildlife.

There was a wonderful sense of community as residents engaged with one another, sharing comments and admiration for the scenic surroundings. Laughter echoed as some took a turn on the swings, finding it both stimulating and relaxing. Others enjoyed gentle exercise by swinging their legs, soaking in the peaceful atmosphere.

Perfect way in which we finished our trip with a treat at the café, where residents enjoyed refreshments and ice cream. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing how uplifting and enjoyable the day had been.

BARCHESTER CHARITY FOUNDATION MAKES DONATION TO LOCAL SOLIHULL MOORS CLUB

Barchester’s Charitable Foundation has proudly donated £1,680 to the Solihull Moors Foundation to support its Over 65's group, helping to provide refreshments over the course of 42 weeks.

This generous contribution will enhance the weekly sessions held for local residents aged 65 and over, creating a warm and welcoming environment where attendees can stay connected, socialise, and engage in community activities. The donation reflects Barchester’s ongoing commitment to supporting older people and tackling isolation through meaningful local partnerships.

The funding will also help the group with bringing engaging and informative sessions directly to the community and creating new opportunities for interaction and learning. This initiative strengthens ties between the Solihull Moors Foundation, local older residents, and Barchester’s Fountains care home, fostering a sense of unity and belonging.

“We’re incredibly grateful to Barchester’s Charitable Foundation for their support,” said a spokesperson from the Solihull Moors Foundation. “This funding will make a huge difference in ensuring our Over 65s group continues to thrive, offering a vital lifeline for older people to stay socially active and connected.”

Barchester’s Charitable Foundation continues to champion grassroots initiatives that enrich the lives of older adults and adults with a disability, and this partnership with the Solihull Moors Foundation is another step in building stronger, healthier, and more connected communities.

VE Day at Fountains care home: A Heartfelt Celebration of Remembrance and Joy

Residents and staff at Fountains Care Home came together for a moving and joyful celebration of VE Day, reflecting on a moment in history that still resonates deeply with many of our residents. The day was filled with memories, music, and meaningful connection.

In the lead-up to the event, several residents bravely shared their own stories and recollections of the war years, recording their memories as part of a special reminiscence project. These powerful moments were filled with emotion—some tears, many smiles, and a shared sense of pride and resilience.

The home was beautifully decorated in red, white, and blue, and the air was filled with nostalgia as we welcomed live singer Jenny, whose classic wartime songs brought back many fond memories and even inspired some spontaneous singing along.

Residents enjoyed a delicious light bite brunch, served with care and warmth, making the day not only meaningful but also a true treat.

It was a day to remember, honouring the past while celebrating the present—bringing joy, unity, and reflection to everyone involved.

Fountains Care Home Hosts a Special Coffee Morning with Residents and Team

Fountains Care Home recently hosted a delightful coffee morning that brought together residents, the marketing team, and our talented Senior Head Chef, Luis. The event was not only an opportunity to enjoy delicious refreshments, but also a meaningful way to empower our residents and involve them in shaping their dining experience.

The morning was well-organised and warmly received, with residents eagerly sampling a variety of treats prepared by head chef Anna of fountains. They shared thoughtful feedback and expressed their preferences, playing an active role in helping to shape future menu ideas. The sense of involvement and collaboration gave residents a real sense of purpose and responsibility—something we are proud to encourage every day.

It was also a great opportunity for residents to connect with professionals from other departments, building relationships and encouraging open conversations. Events like this strengthen our community and highlight the importance of resident voice in everything we do.

With happy faces, lively conversations, and plenty of coffee, the morning was a great success—and one we look forward to repeating.

LOCAL CARE HOME SUPPORTS “WE CAN, CIC”

Fountain Care Home is proud to announce it is supporting We Can, CIC, a remarkable youth-led charitable initiative dedicated to environmental protection and poverty reduction.

We Can, CIC was founded by Ryan, a passionate 12-year-old from Solihull, who set out to make a difference by collecting and recycling empty aluminium drink cans. His goal is simple yet impactful: to reduce waste, protect the planet, and use the proceeds to help those in need. Despite his young age, Ryan’s commitment has inspired people across the community to get involved.

As part of this initiative, Fountain Care Home will now serve as an official collection point for aluminium drink cans. Residents, staff, families, and members of the public are encouraged to contribute their empty cans to support Ryan’s inspiring mission. Every can donated not only helps reduce landfill waste but also contributes directly to charitable efforts addressing poverty.

“We are absolutely thrilled to support such a meaningful and inspiring cause. Ryan’s determination is truly admirable, and we are excited to play a role in expanding the reach and impact of We Can, CIC.” said Zara Friend, Manager at Fountain Care Home.

This collaboration reflects Fountain Care Home’s ongoing commitment to community engagement, sustainability, and supporting the next generation of change makers.

Fountains care home is run by Barchester Healthcare, one of the UK’s largest care providers, which is committed to delivering personalised care across its care homes and hospitals. Fountains provides residential care, respite, and dementia care for 80 residents from respite care to long term stays.
