Activities at Fountains Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Life at Fountains Care Home

Our Gentlemen Club

Our gentlemen’s club was a success! We had a fantastic turn out with our gentlemen coming to attend the fish and chips lunch gathering. We were very lucky to have George one of our gentlemen who wished to host and offer his services. George has a background in hospitality, he was very keen to share and demonstrate his skills. Our gentlemen shared their interests and hobbies which was a great way to interact and build confidence to engage and create/ build up friendships. At the end of the meal thumbs up were given for the homemade fish and chips from our head chef Maria, and looking forward to our next gathering.

Earlswood Brownies Visit our Home

What a fun filled evening with having our local brownies come along and visit our residents, this evening was filled with activities. We had our nature detectives who went out into our garden areas with their identifying sheets naming different birds and leaves. Whilst inside we had a guess in the box, filled with items in which were to be identified, this caused lots of giggles from everyone. We had great help and support from our residents on the threading table, they were happy to share their own skills and knowledge with the younger ones. We also had a table in which everyone could decorate a cup of positivity, this helped to encourage engagement and conversations in a positive manner. When the time to say goodbye came upon us our residents were very pleased with the visit and evening “That was just wonderful, took me right back. Now time for my bed” laughed Jack (resident)

A splendid trip to The Saxon Mill in Warwick

Residents took in the tranquillity provided by nature, with the river Avon flowing around us and the birds singing in the trees. Whilst here we used the ipad to gain more historical knowledge on the Mill and its surrounding area.

Our Residents were very intrigued and pleased to listen and ask questions, whilst enjoying hot refreshments. On our way home the famous Greggs was spotted of course it would be rude not to finish off the day with a sausage roll.

Going live with Enable

Here at fountains care home, we are delighted to share with you all that we have now gone electronic. Thank you to everyone who came along and made this a special day. Everyone had a fantastic afternoon of celebrating in style. We had a live performance from Gail who is a violinist, creating beautiful music. We also had our deputy manager Zara and team leader Fran, who were showcasing our new devices, and answering any questions. Ensuring the party vibes we had lush decorations, plenty of sweet light bite snacks, and a rocket launching homemade cake by our own Barchester Chef Ian! Thank you to for being so supportive during this transition.

With a flick of the Wrist

What a fantastic way in which our residents were able to relax and unwind. A chance to express yourself with water colours, creating different patterns. We loved the way in which are residents went in different directions after looking at the same picture. Joy, Told us how she had managed to create a story tale as she believes her granddaughter would love to hear her tale of the magical mermaid in the deep blue sea. This activity was a success, our residents relaxed became engaged and opened up their minds to explore their own imaginations.

Celebrating 200 years of Cadbury

Staff and residents at Barchester’ s Fountains care home in Solihull were treated to an afternoon of nostalgia and delicious memories when they were joined by Cadbury archivist Sarah Foden and Brand Manager Connor Gould for a talk from the nation’s favourite chocolate brand.

Sarah and Connor walked the Barchester residents through the story of the brand’s great success from the very first shop to how Cadbury is celebrating its 200th anniversary in 2024.  They shared photos from down the years, examples of old packaging and ad campaigns from the Cadbury archive in Bournville. The carefully selected archive material tells the story of an iconic British brand, this year celebrating its 200th anniversary that has been part of people’s lives through generations, in moments big and small. The brand’s rich history evoked all kinds of nostalgic memories for the residents who all have their own Cadbury memories. Our residents, really enjoyed being able to explore and learn more about local history. They were happy to share their own experiences and talked about their favourite chocolate moments.

“It’s just magical the way they can show us all these facts. It really does feel magical especially when watching those adverts, I remember watching with my own children.” Commented Barbara.

“My friends dad used to work for Cadburys, we loved a Saturday morning as he would always hand out the treat tin which we couldn’t wait to dive in” laughed Jack
