Activities at Fountains Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Creating Floral Displays

We will now be creating our own floral displays weekly here at Fountains. So each week on various days the residents will be given the chance to help create beautiful floral arrangements.

This brought back memories for one resident who used to create flowers for her local church and table decorations for weddings. She showed the other residents how to cut the flowers and which flowers complement each other.

Christmas Carols

Today we were visted by Solihull Methodist Church and they led us in a Christmas service and we all joined in singing many Christmas carols.

The residents absolutely loved this and there were so many smiles while they were joining in and chatting with the members of the church.

The residents were each gifted a a handmade crocheted Dove of peace or Angel to keep. Afterwards we all enjoyed some Mince pies and Hot drinks while the residents spent time with the wonderful people who brought such joy to us today.

Resident centred activities

Here at Fountains we work hard to tailor the activities and trips to the residents individual interests.  One of our lovely residents asked if they could go visit Notcutt's to see the Christmas displays and have a coffee.

So today we went on a walk and made sure we were wrapped up nice and warm. In Notcutt's the resident didn't stop smiling and laughing and really enjoyed meeting people who passed and pointed out the decorations that interested them.

She also went on to tell me all about how they celebrated Christmas during wartime, which was extremely interesting to hear.

Keeping the community spirit

Today the Fountains residents were due to have a visit from the Woodlands school choir.  Due to unfortunate circumstances the school were no longer able to attend. But that did not stop the Fountains team wanting to provide some Christmas spirit to the children of woodlands.

So Michelle, the activities coordinator, went along to woodlands to meet some of the staff to drop off some delicious festive treats for the children, and Barchester goody bags for the staff.

Thankfully, the Christmas choir of Woodlands have recorded their festive performance, and we are looking forward to watching it here at Fountains

Christmas Fair

We were so excited for our Christmas Fayre and when the day finally arrived we enjoyed every second of it.  The residents, families and visitors came along to support Fountains and to browse the wonderful stalls on offer.

There was also delicious Turkey and stuffing baps with cranberry, Hot chocolate with Baileys and Mulled wine created and served by our amazing chef.  When you walked into the home you got a fabulous scent of Mulled wine, Wax melts and cakes.

We ended our day with a festive performance and the residents joined in with the songs and helped create music to accompany the singers.
