Activities at Glebefields Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Please join us in congratulating Benazir Shakkir to the role of Acting Deputy Manager at Glebefields Care Home.

Benazir is well known and loved by all within the home as being working at Glebefields for 3yrs. Considering the career progression as she steps into the Deputy and Clinical lead role from a senior RGN, we couldn't resist in throwing her a party!

She's such a beautiful, kind, compassionate and supportive manager, a valuable asset to the Barchester family and home team. We wish her all the best on her promotion.

Getting to Know Birds of Prey

Following a morning arts & crafts sessions with Kay where our residents enjoyed a fact finding quiz on all things associated to our feathered friends before colouring their own birds of prey for display.

We were joined in the afternoon by 'The Birdman' with his collection of rescue birds of Prey, each with its own personality and names to suit such as; Rocky, Norman, Doris the Barn and Eagle owls, Hawks and Falcons.

Each majestic bird has been specially trained to provide a unique therapeutic and sensory interactive experience. Our residents listened intensely to the Birdman's stories surrounding each bird’s life in the trust, and in the wild.

We learnt about their habitats, eating preferences and the care the trust provides. We were all enthralled by the Birdman's knowledge and being able to get up close and personal to these amazing birds of prey.

It was truly a magical afternoon, we can't recommend this experience enough. We're all as wise as the owls now!

Congratulations 'Shilpa' and Goodbye

Career progression within Barchester Healthcare can be bittersweet!

On Friday the Glebefields family said a fond farewell to Deputy Manager; Shilpa Nair who has been promoted to Acting General Manager of Southerndown Care Home - Barchester Healthcare - in Chipping Norton.

Through the tears and laughter, staff, residents and friends of the home sent Shilpa off in style with a huge party with homemade cake and presents to thank her for many years of dedication to our beautiful home.

Having completed her nursing degree in 2012, Shilpa worked in many clinical settings across Europe before settling in the UK and completing her Nursing Master's in leadership and management in 2019.

Everyone has very fond memories of Shilpa, her care and understanding will be sadly missed at Glebefields. She joined the Barchester group in 2020 and her career progression hasn’t ceased, becoming a Clinical Lead and Deputy Manager and now onto Acting General Manager for one of our larger Oxfordshire care homes offering Nursing and Dementia Care.

Shilpa said: "Knowing that my care, touch, voice, and time can help someone make it through the night is one of the most rewarding feelings. The nursing profession has opened so many doors for me, Glebefields is like a family to me and though I’m looking forward to my new role and leading the team at Southerndown, I’m going to miss everyone here so much!”

Nisha Shaji, General Manager at Glebefields said: “Shilpa is one of those people who was born to care for others – she has such a huge heart and was greatly loved by the individuals living at Glebefields Care Home. She was an inspiration to her colleagues and we will all miss her. We wish her all the best!”

Therapy Dog 'Daisy' Visit

Our super fluffy and calming therapy dog; Daisy visited this week to offer our residents plenty of cuddles. She's such a tonic, wagging her tail through the home, in and out of every room to ensure we all get a fuss and she doesn't miss out on any little treats.

It's time to 'Pick Your Own'

With all the recent sunshine and rain showers the crops are in bloom and baring fruit. Our residents had a wonderful time at Rectory Farm PYO gently picking their own punnets full of juicy strawberries.

The farm has 45 acres of colourful produce from courgettes to gooseberries, however, it was the fresh strawberries that took our residents fancy. Sold by the punnet Minnie, Cynthia, Helen and Stan had a wonderful time picking lots of juicy strawberries for afternoon tea.

General Manager Nisha Shaji at Glebefields care home, said: “One of our residents' favourite things to do in July is watching Wimbledon, being able to go and pick their own fresh fruits to have with cream made the tennis sets even sweeter!”
