Activities at Glebefields Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Laughter and Joy with the magic of Puppets!

Laughter and Joy with the magic of Puppets!

We all had a truly magical time as we welcomed the incredibly talented ventriloquist, Tony Puppets, and his amazing cast of characters for their very first visit!

Tony absolutely blew us all away with his incredible speaking, singing, and ability to bring his puppets to life. From the moment the show started, the room was filled with the brightest smiles, wonder and giggles.
The puppets didn’t just perform they engaged directly with our residents, making everyone feel like part of the act. Residents met the whole gang: Charlie the Chimp, Ollie, Grandad Nigel, Richard Rat, Francesca, and even a hilarious giant ostrich whose name slipped our minds because we were laughing so hard!

Resident Barry said “they look so much like the real characters they were representing!" Thank you so much on behalf of all the residents, Tony. It was a truly brilliant show!" – Fiona, Residents.
Benazir Shakkir, General Manager said “ you, Tony, for making the day so incredibly special. We are already counting down the days until your next visit!

Spice and a splash of tequila

Spice and a splash of tequila

We brought a taste of Mexico to Drayton today! To celebrate Cinco de Mayo, our residents ditched the wine into some zesty Paloma cocktails. Zoe, activities coordinator mixed up a storm for the resident whilst sharing stories, laughed, we toasted, and we definitely found our new house special. Perfect drinks, even better company. Just the right amount of fiesta spirit!

Resident Margaret shared "This is a very nice surprise, and its tastes very good too, cheers"

Worship brings the Residents Together

Worship brings the Residents Together

We have a regular service at the home on a monthly basis. This month Pastor David led the service and worship, with elders and parishioners from Banbury’s Evangelical Church who joined us for a time to spend together and feel the power of faith.

David shared inspiring readings from the Bible, sang beautiful hymns, prayers and though provoking words that reminded us of the happiness of togetherness.

We are always so aware that our residents may have followed a faith of their own and were able to frequent church as often as they like, but health has limited their ability and we know that by having these regular worship times helps to spread love, kindness, and share a common bond in faith.

Having these regular church services is a big part of life enrichment and we extend our thanks to the Church for coming in to Glebefields every month.

Our First Monthly Walking Club Was a Huge Success!

Our First Monthly Walking Club Was a Huge Success!

What an absolutely wonderful time on our first official monthly walk here at Glebefields!
Eight of our lovely visitors and team members laced up their walking shoes for a fantastic adventure around Banbury. Our special guest star was our Deputy Manager’s 8-year-old daughter, Amy! She kept everyone on their toes, putting our walkers through their paces while chattering away the entire time. It was simply adorable! Our Head of Maintenance, Simon, acted as our expert tour guide, sharing some amazing local history and stories with Amy and the group as we explored.

Amy gave us a rundown on her adventure "We passed a massive tree that was struck by lightning a few years ago. The Kissing Gate, We learned the funny story behind the fence it is said a farmer once trapped his girlfriend there until she gave him a kiss before leaving! The Dovecote its an ancient building that looks just like a miniature castle. Simon explained it was built long ago to feed birds and store food for the nearby estate. The Prince's Carving on a tall stone building block featuring carving in a foreign language by a prince".

We even braved a sudden downpour of rain, thunder, and lightning by sheltering safely under a big tree together which just added to the adventure!  Amy had so much fun learning all about the area, and our visitors had an absolute blast sharing the day with her.

On return to the home our lovely visitors and staff were treated to sandwiches, crisps, tea, coffee and of course cake all complimentary from the homes dedicated hospitality team.
We are already looking forward to next month's walk! Hope you can Join us.

What an incredible day of connection, flavour, and community at Glebefields

Staff from all backgrounds came together to share dishes that represent their heritage from rich spices to sweet treats, every bite told a story. Laughter filled the room as we celebrated not just food, but friendship, tradition, and togetherness.

Thank you to everyone who brought a dish, a smile, and a piece of their culture to share. Moments like these remind us of the joy in diversity and the power of community.

Nostalgic VE Day Lunch with Royal British Legion

Nostalgic VE Day Lunch with Royal British Legion

Residents and guests celebrated the anniversary of VE Day with a vibrant, party themed afternoon tea. The afternoon was filled with laughter, smiles, and warm conversation. The event successfully recreated the joyous community spirit of 1945, with flags flying, bowler hats and decorative bunting.

A Special Guest and a Naval Veteran were honoured Guests, who were representatives from the Banbury Royal British Legion joined the festivities. Legion representative Chris, Tony & spent the afternoon sharing memories with resident Betty, who is a permanent resident at Glebefields, was just 17 years old in 1945. She served in the Navy during World War II. Betty captivated guests by sharing her vivid, first-hand stories and treasured memories of the historic day the war ended in Europe.

A day was a community celebration with poignant remembrance. It fostered powerful intergenerational connections between local veterans and the home's community.

Benazir Shakkir, General Manager at Glebefields Care Home, said:
"It was a lovely afternoon full of remembrance, kindness, and treasured moments that we will all remember fondly. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Banbury Royal British Legion for joining us on this monumental day. We cannot wait to welcome them back to our home very soon."

Community Spirit with Drayton Coffee Morning

Community Spirit with Drayton Coffee Morning

Glebefields continue to build relationships with the local community, opening their doors for a heart-warming Coffee Morning, this regular get together was part of the home's ongoing commitment to building strong links with its neighbours and providing a welcoming social hub for all.

The event saw residents and members of the Drayton community come together for a cup of fresh coffee, homemade treats, and lively conversation and were joined by some of the homes staff team. The residents also venture out on the home’s minibus to the local Drayton Community Hall to join the community for their coffee mornings on a reguals basis.

The atmosphere was filled with laughter and stories as visitors and residents swapped stories and caught up on local news in the home’s comfortable dining room. The hospitality team provided a range of homemade cakes and biscuits, which proved to be a highlight of the morning.

Activities Coordinator, Zoe Terry said "It was fantastic to see everyone coming together and maintaining the formed connections in such a warm and welcoming space,"

General Manager, Benazir Shakkir stated "We are so grateful to everyone who joined us and helped make the morning so special. These events are a wonderful way for our residents to stay connected with the village they call home."

Vintage Ruby Strikes a Chord with Residents

Vintage Ruby Strikes a Chord with Residents

We welcomed back Vintage Ruby to Glebefields. Ruby always brings such joy and fun to her performance, engaging with the residents and staff, bringing the room alive to her upbeat vocal renditions. Everyone had a wonderful time from singing and dancing along to a live Instrument edition from Bob.

One of the cornerstones of our life enrichment program is live musical entertainment. Resident involvement in choosing genres along with feedback after each performance means that we are able to constantly improve our activities calendar.

The methods and mediums may change but the heart of live music - the communal joy, the shared emotions, the collective energy - remains untouched. As we look to the future, one thing is clear live music will continue to be a cherished experience at Glebefields, even as its form and format evolve.

Celebrations for International Nurses Day

Celebrations for International Nurses Day

Glebefields brought residents, families, and staff together today to celebrate International Nurses Day, shining a spotlight on generations of nursing dedication.

The event focused on the incredible compassion, professionalism, and hard work demonstrated daily by the home's nursing team thanking the home’s frontline clinical team for going above and beyond to provide comfort, kindness, and support to residents and their families.

As a token of appreciation for their patience and genuine compassion, gift bags were presented to nurses Jeni, Beena, Sheela, Parulben, and Home Manager Benazir Shakkir. The afternoon event also looked back at the history of the profession by giving an honourable mention to two Glebefields residents, Betty and Rhona. Both women spent their working lives as dedicated career nurses, bringing a deep sense of shared history to the day's celebrations.

There was a delicious celebratory buffet for staff, residents, and visiting families, prepared by the homes head chef Vincent, with a celebration cake with both Betty and Rhona had the honour of the first cut.

Benazir Shakkir, General Manager said "Every single day, our nurses go above and beyond to provide comfort, care, kindness, and support to our residents and their families. Their patience, professionalism, and genuine compassion make such a difference. We are truly grateful for everything they do, and it was equally wonderful to celebrate the incredible residents, Betty and Rhona."

Tickled Pink Brings "Rags to Riches" to Life!

We were absolutely delighted to welcome back the talented Tickled Pink Productions this week for their dazzling performance of Rags to Riches. The Dining Room was transformed into a vibrant stage as our residents were swept away by a morning of professional singing, dancing and storytelling.

The costumes were a particular highlight brilliant, sparkly, and full of vintage flair truly bringing the magic of the stage right into our home. From the first note to the final bow, the room was filled with the sound of laughter and familiar dance hall songs that sparked wonderful memories for everyone.

A massive thank you goes to Thomas and Charlie for their incredible energy and warmth. They made the show truly interactive. Smiles and laughter during the hilarious interactive segments.

It was a truly uplifting experience that left everyone "Tickled Pink" and buzzing with joy. We are already counting down the days until their next visit in July for "Around the World in 60 Minutes"—another whirlwind adventure we can’t wait to join!
