Activities at Glebefields Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

National Wine and Cheese Day

What a fantastic time we all had celebrating National Cheese & Wine Day yesterday, surely one of the best days of the year! The activities team and Head Chef, Bose Jose, got together to source some local cheeses and paired them with all sorts of wines. Our residents had great fun trying different styles of wine with the different cheeses along with relishes, chutneys, grapes, plus a range of breads, biscuits and crackers.

Home Manager, Nisha, said: “Everyone was so excited to hear there was a National Cheese & Wine Day, what a brilliant excuse to get lots of delicious cheeses and wines in to sample. It is such a classic combination, our residents had a fantastic time tasting all the different cheeses and wines on offer.”

Life is good at Glebefields! Come and join the community, we're welcoming new residents and would love to show you around our beautiful home.

The Sun Shone for Seaside Day

Staff, residents, relatives and the local community came together at Glebefields to enjoy some summer sun at our Seaside themed event. We hosted a variety of activities throughout the day, including tin-can alley, skittles, beach volleyball, and a sand castle competition. It was such an awesome day, with the gardens transformed into a breach front with visiting ice cream van. The homes hospitality team served a traditional ‘Fish and Chips’ menu by the seaside, beside the sea!

All the visiting children enjoyed making sand castles for our residents to judge the best and Addhu and Jacob brought smiles to our faces throughout the day jumping in and out of the paddling pools and playing various ball games with everyone. Residents; Edith and Marlene said, “We thoroughly enjoyed it, seeing so many people having fun in our gardens. The vintage ice creams were just perfect!”.

Nisha Shaji General Manager at Glebefields care home said that "Today has been such fun and it's not the end of summer fun at Glebefields, we have many more exciting activities lined up for the residents and local community."

Nelson Mandela Day

Our residents took time to remember Nelson Mandela on 18th July in honour of the great man’s birthday.

Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was born in Mvezo, South Africa. An anti-apartheid revolutionary, political leader and philanthropist, Mandela was South Africa’s first democratically elected African president and served his country from 1994-99.

We spent the day reminiscing on his life and creating a memory board. Nelson Mandela was renowned around the world for his commitment to peace, negotiation and reconciliation. Also known as Madiba, he passed away on 5 December 2013 with many accolades to his name including the Nobel Peace Prize.

"He was truly a remarkable man, a real one-off."

Celebrated Eid ul-Adh

This week we celebrated the Islamic holiday Eid ul-Adha, which takes place over four days from 9th-13th July.

It’s been a week of enlightenment for us all. Our residents have enjoyed Eid related arts and crafts to help decorate the home before today’s celebrations whereby several members of staff joined the residents in traditional dress, and provided us all with the history of Eid.

Eid ul-Adha honours the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismail as an act of obedience to God’s command. Before Ibrahim could sacrifice his son however, Allah provided a lamb for him to sacrifice instead.

General Manager, Nisha commented; “Eid is such an important event in the Islamic calendar, we all enjoyed watching our staff dance, and learning the prayers to give thanks to Allah during the ceremonies within our home.”

Live Music from Bill

What a fabulous day, full of swinging songs from Bill Tustain with his mixture of 50's to 70's music. Our residents and staff thoroughly enjoyed his show. We look forward to him entertaining us again very soon!
