Activities at Glebefields Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Virtual Coffee Cocktail Making

Did you know that NESCAFÉ was created in 1938?

Ever since the brand has been at the heart of the nation’s homes. Being the biggest coffee distributor in the world, they know a thing or two about coffee!

Yesterday our residents were treated to LIVE coffee masterclass courtesy of Catherine Woodruff and Paul Vernon from Nescafé.

There was an interactive quiz where residents put their coffee knowledge to the test before Catherine and Paul demonstrated how to make some delicious coffee cocktails. We followed their instructions and got to enjoy our own coffee cocktail creation; Sweet Cinnamon Shaken Iced Coffee.

Celebrating London Fashion Week

Here at Glebefields care home we marked London’s Fashion Week in style.

We looked through fashion magazines and learnt more about the Swinging Sixties, typified by Mary Quant, Ossie Clark and Bárbara Hulanicki, through to Vivienne Westwood’s punk provocations and Alexander McQueen’s dark and dramatic visions and London’s long legacy of producing extraordinary designs.

We reminisced on what they used to wear in their younger days and had fun creating some wonderful fashion collages.

Art Club

Our gentlemen really enjoyed Art Club this week. With mindful colouring and expressive watercolour painting. Roberts 'tree in the wind' looked very realistic with the passing storms doing the same outside!

In preparation for our St David's Day celebrations the group decided to create their own paper crafted daffodil table displays and Welsh themed bunting.

Employee of the Month - January 2022

The residents and staff at Glebefields care home took time to congratulate Care Assistant; Snobia Hussain for being nominated as ‘Employee of the Month’ for January 2022.

Snobia was nominated for her commitment to the home and the enrichment of our residents lives; she's always happy to help across all departments. Bringing smiles and laughter to all the residents and making sure they are continually treated with respect and dignity.

Home Manager; Nisha said “Snobia is such a delightful member of our care team, she lights up the home with her smile and positive attitude. I’m so pleased to be presenting her with a £25 voucher to treat herself to something special.

We all hope this award goes some way towards showing Snobia how much she is valued by us all." Thank you for always going above and beyond!

Fragrant Flower Club

Flower club is always a special time when our residents gather together to chose and cut their favourite blooms. Spending time together in the sensory act of arranging flowers is good for the mind, body and soul. Its amazing how the smell of freshly cut blooms can quickly fill our home and put smiles on all our faces.

The Warmington Hoard

It’s been some time since we’ve managed to take a minibus trip out, and although only a short distance the whole experience of getting ready for a journey was terribly exciting.

Our destination was Drayton Village Hall, just across the road but difficult to get to when you’re unsteady under foot and trying to dodge the unpredictable storms!

We joined other villagers for a wonderful presentation on ‘The Warmington Hoard’. Mr Andrew Baxter, an old coin expert gave the talk, he explained how a local man, in July 2008 was out with his metal detector and uncovered a hoard of 1141 silver Roman denarii coins whilst exploring a recently ploughed site in Warmington parish.

Our residents, Myrtle, Tom, Alvar, Bert and Paul we fascinated by the find, and hope to visit the museum to see the actual coins in the coming months.

It was a marvellous day out and so nice to meet more people from the village. Our Glebefields chef prepared some lovely home-baked biscuits for everyone to enjoy over a nice cup of tea courtesy of the village hall. A big thank you to the organisers for inviting us.
