Activities at Glebefields Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

International Firefighters' Day

Residents and staff at Glebefields Care Home in Drayton, Banbury honoured their local firefighters by inviting their local fire crew from Banbury Fire Station to the home for a fire safety briefing and tour of their fire engine.

Our residents enjoyed crafting a large tissue ribbon effect emblem; half red and half blue representing the firefighters work with ‘fire and water’ to present to the crew as a thank you for their selfless service in keeping the community safe.

Coinciding with Saint Florian’s Day, International Firefighters’ Day is celebrated around the world. Saint Florian, who was said to be one of the first commanding firefighters of a Roman battalion, saved many lives and is the patron saint of firefighters. The event was created in 1999 after five firefighters died tragically in a wildfire in Australia to highlight the sacrifices made by fire crews around the world who all unite in the fight against one common enemy – fire.

Nisha Shaji, General Manager at the home, said: “Our local firefighters put their lives on the line every day to save our lives, loved ones and homes, and even our forests, cities and towns, so we wanted to take the opportunity to let them know just how much we appreciate all that they do for us. We think they are truly wonderful human beings.”

Residents; Paul and Myrtle, who live at Glebefields said: “We can’t imagine how terrifying it must be to go into a burning building to rescue someone, and think our fire crews are absolutely amazing and we can’t thank them enough for their service. They are all heroes in our eyes.”

50's Singalong

What a performance! Thank you Tristian Pate. Our residents had a fabulous time singing along to his 50’s mix of Frank Sinatra, Rat Pack and various Country and Weston favourites.

Watery Arts & Crafts

Marbling and Aqua painting fun during this weeks Arts & Crafts session with Kay.

Our residents enjoyed creating vats of floating paint or simply dropping and splashing paint in random blobs to create their very own marble effect masterpieces.

Some preferred the less messy activity of using water to reveal colourful paintings that overtime revert back to line drawings - as if by magic!

Men's Breakfast Club at The Hill

We had such fun taking a couple of our gentlemen residents; Alvar and Paul to the Men's Breakfast Club at The Hill Community Centre, Banbury for a hearty breakfast.

It was such a wonderful morning and the team at The Hill were so accommodating, Alvar even got the chance to play resident DJ as he was shown the 'music studio' including guitars, decks and mic’s.

Music is a real passion for Alvar, mixing on the decks made his day!

The Queen's 96th birthday

Our residents had a truly royal time marking the date of The Queen's 96th birthday on 21st April. We were delighted to have a right royal tea party in her honour.

Head chef and the hospitality team whipped up a tasty selection of freshly-baked biscuits, pastries and cakes for the occasion, all washed down with pots of tea. Residents took part in a variety of royal–themed events including watching old newsreels and catching up on the official photography from today, and over the years.

We all agree she looks as beautiful now as she did in her younger years.

Nisha Shaji, General Manager at Glebefields said: “Our residents love a party and they love the Queen so they all enjoyed the tea and cakes and reminiscing about her reign. The Queen is an amazing lady who has been through so much lately so holding a birthday tea was a wonderful way to remember her and pay our respects."
