Valentine’s Day at Glebefields was full of sweet things, love, fun activities and entertainment! 

Our residents enjoyed making their own valentine biscuits, personalised with fondant icing and joined in with a virtual truffle making session courtesy of our Life Enrichment team.

Every resident received a fresh single red rose from our manager; Nisha and, after their 3 course valentines meal we sang along to 40's singing duo Sparky & Sprite Entertainment who had us all swinging.

Our residents and staff had a super time together and send love and best wishes to you all.

To mark the Queen’s official birthday the Barchester hospitality and life enrichment teams invited our homes to design, bake and decorate a cake (or cakes) fit for the Queen to celebrate on Saturday 13th June. The winning entry will receive £250 Bidfood vouchers to spend as they choose!

The residents and the activities team at Glebefields got their creative cookery heads on to share ideas and recipes from their younger days. All agreed that the Queen would love a rich fruit cake.

Using Earl Grey tea to soak the mixed dried fruit, with a touch of Cinnamon as a nod to the Commonwealth and stirred with birthday wishes and love they baked their best ‘Fruit Majestic’ cake before decorating with butter icing in Red, White & Blue for her Royal Highness.

We had enormous fun baking this delicious fruit cake and even more fun sitting together eating every slice with afternoon tea. We entered the competition and await to hear if we’ve won! We loved our creation so much we thought we’d share the recipe with everyone.

Staff and residents welcomed in the Year of the Tiger with a day of celebrations and activities.

Inspired by Chinese culture and traditions, the home was decorated with hanging red lanterns and bunting. Residents learnt how to write their names in Chinese and the pronunciation of each; which was fun!

The hospitality team served an oriental feast for lunch and we delighted in reading the cryptic Fortune Cookie messages to one another.

Home Manager; Nisha said “We have had a brilliant day, the home looks absolutely wonderful decorated all in resident homemade red and we all had such fun finding out what animal we are, the associated traits and reading each other’s horoscopes. The residents loved dressing up and watching videos of traditional lion and dragon dances too.

Albert (Bert) Rowan a resident at Glebefields said: “I loved the music, the vibrant costumes and learning about the Chinese Zodiac animal traits. A person born in the Year of the Tiger is said to be fiery, passionate, daring and fearless. I find it fascinating to learn all about different traditions.”

Our varied life enrichment programme keeps residents active, and provides a daily choice of engaging physical, mental and spiritual activities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities.

We're getting ready to launch our Chinese New Year celebrations this week, our residents have been making pom-poms and colourful pieces of art to decorate the home.

Paul has been keeping busy and completed his first jigsaw of 2022. He's such a puzzle master, steadily placing each piece day by day, we've all been mesmerised with its progression into this wonderful view of canoes on Moraine Lake in Alberta, Canada. The 1000 piece Christmas gift from his brother took him around 3 weeks to complete.
