Activities at Glenroyd Care Home

Here at the Glenroyd our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. Everyone is different and gets pleasure from different things and here at Glenroyd we understand that and therefore try to provide a programme of activity that is tailored to individuals needs. We do this by gathering information and life history work and using that information to feed into our activities schedule. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Agata Prendota

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Agata Prendota and I am the activities coordinator here at Glenroyd. I have worked at Glenroyd since 2014 and in April 2022 transferred to activities. I developed a strong relationship with many of our residents and their families. This has helped me to create a tailored activities program focused on maximizing everyone’s wellbeing, independence, and social engagement.

It is my goal to create a stimulating environment that enables to provide imaginative, fun, and motivational activities that suit every interest and ability. My infectious enthusiasm and creative approach are the key to inspire our residents and staff to get involved in activities both within the home and in the local community.

I am passionate about my role and especially the challenge of coming up with new ways to engage as many residents as possible in daily activities.

Life at Glenroyd Care Home

Valentine's Day

Glenroyd care home, in Blackpool, was filled with flowers, cards and sweets in celebration of St Valentine’s Day.

Staff and residents celebrated the day of love by having visits in the homes designated visiting suite with loved ones, exchanging handmade cards and gifts for one another, creating heart-shaped decorations to decorate the home and gifting each other home-made sweets, cakes and treats.

General Manager, Judith Edmondson, said: “It’s been a very different Valentine’s Day but we’ve all had a lovely day nonetheless. Lots of our residents were able to see their loved ones either using our visiting suite or on a video call. We’ve had a whole range of treats and Valentine’s themed fun and we have enjoyed every moment of it!”

Vaccine lifts spirits

Staff at Barchester’s Glenroyd care home, in Blackpool, were delighted to have the vaccination in-house, which has lifted everyone’s spirits after what has been a very challenging year for everyone.

General Manager, Judith Edmondson said: “We’ve had a year like no other and the vaccine feels like the light at the end of the tunnel.  Our teams have been magnificent in how they have risen to every challenge during this pandemic and we are proud to play our part in this next phase to ensure the most vulnerable are protected.”

Billy Jennings, staff member at Glenroyd care home said:  It was an honour to be the first staff member to receive the oxford vaccine in-house and to be able to share the experience with our residents and know it’s all in aid of better times to come and to keep everyone safe. Thomas white was one of our first residents to receive the vaccine was sailed through the processes and had everyone full of laughter, also supporting other residents throughout the process.

Santa makes a surprise visit

Residents of Glenroyd were delighted to meet Santa on Christmas Day as he delivered presents to the home and each of the residents.  Jason Dawson, a staff member at the home dressed as Santa to spread a little festive cheer to the amusement of all.

Residents opened their presents together before enjoying a traditional Christmas lunch prepared by the homes hospitality team.  It was a fun filled day with lots of emotions and everyone had a wonderful team.   Each staff member also received a gift generously donated by the homes local Primark store in Blackpool and would like to say a massive thank you for their kind donation.

Eunice was joined by staff and other residents as she received a telegram from the Queen in recognition of her landmark birthday. An afternoon tea was held at the home and the birthday girl enjoyed a special birthday cake made by the home’s hospitality team and was overwhelmed to receive her telegraph from Her Majesty the Queen.

Daily lifestyle activities

Here at Glenroyd although we enjoy our daily group fun-filled activities,  we also implement this in to doing daily lifestyle activities getting our residents involved with helping us set the table to the homes dining service, writing on our menu boards, collecting items from the laundry and all of the residents really enjoy getting involved and keeping busy.

Luncheon Club

Residents at Glenroyd enjoy their popular luncheon club. We hold a daily luncheon club in our light and airy conservatory hosting a fine dining experience.  Residents, Tom and Frank both really enjoyed their experience before participating in a quiz with a nice pint of lager. They both enjoyed the company and view and said it was a very nice experience.
