Activities at Hall Park Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Happy 100th Birthday to Annie

We celebrated Annie’s 100th birthday in style with a party food tea, flowers, games and many cards.  Annie was delighted to receive her card from the Queen. Annie said she couldn’t have wished for a better way to celebrate the day with her closest family and friends.

Residents enjoy virtual talk with Blenheim Palace

Ahead of Armed Forces Day, we were transported back in time for a World War II themed talk and tour of Blenheim Palace, hosted by Antonia Keaney, the Palace’s social historian and author.

Entitled ‘Evacuees and Espionage,’ Antonia’s wartime themed talk focused on how the Marlborough family, estate staff and the Palace itself played a full and energetic part in the war effort.

The talk and tour told the story of how the Palace prepared for the worst, survived the onslaught of 400 boys being evacuated to Blenheim and kept the secrets of MI5.

It was a lovely experience, enjoyed by all.

Residents enjoy tour of Hereford Cathedral

We had a lovely time joining the team from Hereford Cathedral for an exciting virtual session.

We enjoyed a glimpse of this spectacular building and its treasures in a series of short pre-recorded videos. From the stunning gardens which lead down to the River Wye, to the Mappa Mundi and Chained Library.

It was wonderful to learn more about the history and beauty of Hereford Cathedral.

Mary Quant life and times

As part of our life enrichment virtual programme, team members and residents at Hall Parkenjoyed a ‘Mary Quant Life and Time’ virtual talk, hosted by @VADundee.

The residents took a journey back to the swinging sixties and the height of liberated fashion with the first major exhibition in 50 years of the seminal British designer’s work. Everyone at the home was able to explore how her unique style developed from humble beginnings and went on to change the face of fashion forever.

Quant captured the spirit of the swinging sixties and pioneered a business model that reshaped the industry, making designer fashion far more accessible for women and men.

The talk also focused on Quant’s career and influences, the personal stories behind some of the stylish outfits in the exhibition, V&A Dundee’s #SewQuant campaign and even a peek behind the scenes.

V&A Dundee is Scotland’s design and opened on 15 September 2018. It is the first Victoria and Albert museum outside London, and presents the brilliance of Scottish creativity and the best of design from

Lucy Tomlinson, Resident Experience Manager for Barchester Healthcare, commented: “Our varied life enrichment programme keeps the residents active, and provides a daily choice of engaging physical, mental and spiritual activities tailored to the residents’ interests and abilities.”

Flowers with Blooming Haus

Here at Hall Park we were delighted to spend time creating a beautiful floral masterpiece to enter the #BloomingBarchester competition in partnership with Blooming Haus following their amazing virtual flower arranging masterclass.

We all had a wonderful time decorating and working on our arrangement and we are happy to say we were impressed with our skills in applying all the tips and ideas learnt during the class to make a colourful floral design.

Armchair exercises with the Green Goddess

Residents at Hall Park were thrilled to join a lovely armchair exercise session with the Green Goddess, the famous and glamorous fitness guru on BBC’s Breakfast Time in the 1980’s, presented through Shackletons Furniture Company.

Diana Moran BEM - the Green Goddess says: “Even if we spend more time sitting than walking, we can still maintain wellbeing at any age if we sit with the proper support, posture, correct height and balance in our chairs”.

The wellbeing session, along with a talk on mindfulness and the importance of mental health, brought great memories to the residents and triggered a wave of interesting reminiscing conversations.

We are excited to work with our amazing partners like Shackletons and their Wellness Ambassador Diana Moran.
