Activities at Harper Fields Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

There is always something to do here at Harper Fields and always someone to assist the residents in any activity they wish to take part in. We have entertainers come into the home to sing and play instruments on a weekly basis, as well as visits from PAT dogs, hairdressers, massage therapists and nail technicians to pamper those who live here. Residents' spiritual needs are taken into account at Harper Fields; we have regular services from the Catholic and Methodist church, in addition to the Church of England, and for our non-religious residents, we have a weekly calming and peaceful ‘mindfulness and meditation group,’ which is very popular, especially for those living with dementia. Residents often like to attend cinema evenings to watch their favourite films on the big screen (complete with sweets and popcorn), or develop new skills at our computer classes, where they can learn how to Skype their families in other countries. Our activities are tailored to suit the individual interests and capabilities of residents and our specialised equipment enables those we support to enjoy everything we have to offer.

Life at Harper Fields Care Home

Very Patriotic!

Ruth is a wonderful student from ‘Brighterlife’ which is a support service for children, young people and adults with special education needs in Balsall common. Each month we have competitions with the students but this month as it was the Kings Coronation we invited the students for a ‘Royal Afternoon Tea party’ Ruth really got into the spirit of things and came dressed ready to party. We think she looked superb, don’t you ?

A right Royal Knees up was had by all !

Wow, How lucky are we!

Milltown Sound Choir from Wigan had an awesome weekend at Warwick Arts Centre .They performed in the Quartet of Nations Region 31- Sweet Adelines International Convention.

The ladies came second in the competition but they did say the high light of their weekend was coming to Harper fields and performing for one of the ladies Grandma’s, Agnes and all her friends at Harper fields Agnes is going to be 100 years old on June 3rd  so to have the whole choir sing here was absolutely phenomenal.

‘God Save The King’ Coronation

Harper fields residents had a wonderful day celebrating King Charles lll Coronation. Due to the weather not being so good, our outdoor street party became an indoor street party. Our hospitality team served up a delicious feast fit for a King.

We were extremely lucky to have Balsall Common’s U3a Swing Division Band play an array of songs (which we were able to sing along to) for the whole afternoon. Family and friends of the band shared in our celebrations, so lots of new friendships were made on this very momentous occasion.

Coronation talk

Across our services Residents had a wonderful time participating in an interactive virtual talk with Pippa Catterall, Professor of History and Policy at the University of Westminster, where we delved into the rich history of coronations.

During the talk, we explored fascinating topics such as the coronation chair, the crown, and other significant aspects related to King Charles' upcoming coronation. Our residents were thrilled to have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the memoirs of past coronations from 1937 and 1953, as well as learning about the coronation oath and what to expect from the ceremony, including the music, guests, and pageantry.

Memory Land Gardening Club

A garden can help those living with Dementia enjoy socialising and connect with others by creating a shared experience, to take part in physical activity and stimulate the senses and memories.

Did you spot ‘Benjamin’?

Harper fields Benjamin bunny was hopping all over the village of Balsall common delivering Easter goodies for the children and to Capellas nursery. Children waved, car horns tooted and truck drivers cheered every time they spotted ‘Benjamin’.
