Activities at Harper Fields Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
There is always something to do here at Harper Fields and always someone to assist the residents in any activity they wish to take part in. We have entertainers come into the home to sing and play instruments on a weekly basis, as well as visits from PAT dogs, hairdressers, massage therapists and nail technicians to pamper those who live here. Residents' spiritual needs are taken into account at Harper Fields; we have regular services from the Catholic and Methodist church, in addition to the Church of England, and for our non-religious residents, we have a weekly calming and peaceful ‘mindfulness and meditation group,’ which is very popular, especially for those living with dementia. Residents often like to attend cinema evenings to watch their favourite films on the big screen (complete with sweets and popcorn), or develop new skills at our computer classes, where they can learn how to Skype their families in other countries. Our activities are tailored to suit the individual interests and capabilities of residents and our specialised equipment enables those we support to enjoy everything we have to offer.

Medieval Church Visit
A lovely trip out to the historic St John the Baptist Church in Berkswell, near Balsall Common. This beautiful medieval church is full of character and history, with parts of the building dating back to the 12th century. Walking around the church and seeing the stunning stonework, ancient yew trees, and peaceful surroundings really makes you feel connected to the past.
It’s amazing to think about how many generations have passed through this church over hundreds of years. The architecture, the quiet atmosphere, and the sense of history make it a truly special place to visit. A wonderful reminder of the rich heritage we have right on our doorstep.
Can you spot George the bear? he had a fantastic time with our residents.

Garden centre trip
we had a lovely trip out to Smiths Garden Centre with some of our wonderful residents. We spent the afternoon browsing all the beautiful plants, colourful flowers, and unique garden decorations. There was lots to see and plenty of chats about favourite flowers and gardening memories. It was so nice to take our time looking at all the different displays and enjoying the fresh, vibrant atmosphere.
Of course, no visit would be complete without a stop at the café! We treated ourselves to some very yummy cakes and a nice cup of tea. There were lots of smiles around the table and a few empty plates by the end!
We also had a very special new passenger join us on our trip… please say hello to George the Bear. George made himself very comfortable and seemed to enjoy the outing just as much as we did! He will be our new mascot and come on all of our trips out and have his very own travel diary.
A wonderful day filled with laughter, treats, and great company. We’re already looking forward to our next adventure!

Jewellery making
Jewellery making for arts and crafts has become a favourite in our home. It’s therapeutic, and it’s nice to make gifts for family members. The activity gives residents independence, fun and enjoyment.
What’s your favourite piece of jewellery?

Lollipop ponies
We had the most wonderful visit today as the ponies came to see our residents. So many smiles, laughs, and happy memories were shared as everyone enjoyed spending time with them — especially seeing the ponies dressed in their adorable Christmas outfits!
The visit sparked beautiful conversations, with residents reminiscing about the days they owned horses, rode them, or cared for them when they were younger. It was truly heartwarming to see the joy on their faces and hear the stories that came flooding back. Moments like these remind us how powerful animal visits can be in lifting spirits and creating meaningful connections. Thank you to everyone who helped make this festive and special day possible!
Thank you to the lovely ladies and ponies Lollipop Pony Parties. We had a lovely time.

Halloween fun at Harper Fields
What a spooktacular day we had celebrating Halloween! Our residents enjoyed a fantastic performance from our wonderful singer David , and the atmosphere was filled with music, laughter, and smiles all around. A big thank you to Sonia for her delicious homemade cakes —they were a real treat!
Thank you Joyce for decorating and making the afternoon fabulous with Emma. It was a joy to see everyone getting into the Halloween spirit and having such a great time together.

St Patrick's Day
What a fantastic St Patrick’s Day we’ve had!
Our day was filled with laughter, creativity, and plenty of green spirit. We started off by decorating delicious biscuits, so many colourful and creative designs! Then we made the most of the beautiful sunshine with lovely walks around the grounds, soaking it all in together.
The fun didn’t stop there… the afternoon brought lots of smiles with our quiz, a sing-along full of favourites, and of course, enjoying the energy and magic of Riverdance.
A truly joyful day shared with wonderful company – memories made and smiles all around. We hope you had a great St Patrick’s Day.

Granting wishes
Yesterday we had the pleasure of granting two very special wishes to our residents, Henry and Susannah, and what a lovely day it turned out to be!
Our first wish for Henry was a trip to Notcutts Garden Centres, followed by a well-deserved stop for some delicious chocolate cake, a perfect treat after a stroll among the plants.

Another lovely day of curling
Another lovely game of curling to start the day. Being active and competitive keeps the body and brain stimulated, such a fun sport to play.
The red team won with 84 points, but the blues weren't far behind with 80 points. We were lucky to have Chef Sonia to help out and have a quick go! Lovely having the team join in.

Afternoon at the opera
What a wonderful afternoon we had here at Harper Fields care home, enjoying beautiful music with the talented Barry Styles! His performance brought smiles, memories, and plenty of toe-tapping all around.
Our residents were treated to chilled Prosecco and delicious nibbles lovingly prepared by our amazing kitchen team — the perfect pairing for a truly elegant afternoon.
A huge thank-you to Barry for sharing his incredible voice with us, and to our staff for making the day so special.
Here’s to many more musical moments together!

A special milestone at Harper Fields
We’re so delighted to share that, on a Friday, we welcomed our very first member into the “Don’t Dine Alone Club” here at Harper Fields. A lovely lady called Cheryl joined us and this is what she said: “I visited Harper Field's Care Home for lunch. It's a welcoming building with easy parking. The whole feel of the home is warm and welcoming. The decor and furnishings are of a high standard and very much a home. I was warmly welcomed by Emma, who was running the residents' activities. She showed me to the dining room where I had a delightful lunch with Agnes, their oldest resident. She was delightful company. The meal was hot, very appetising and delicious. I had tomato and red pepper soup followed by fish and chips. The desert proved too much for me, but Agnes tucked into her Tiramisu with gusto. I was very impressed with the standard of both the food and the beautifully laid out dining room. I shall certainly take up the offer again and was very impressed with the high standard of the staff, the quality of the food and the friendly atmosphere.”
This wonderful initiative is all about ensuring that no one in our community ever feels alone — especially during life’s most important moments. It’s a beautiful reflection of the love, care, and companionship that makes Harper Fields feel like family every single day. Here’s to kindness, connection, and making sure every heart is surrounded by care.

Lunch with Cubbington Mill
We visited one of our sister's homes for lunch. We had such a lovely visit to Cubbington Mill Care Home – Barchester Healthcare today.
From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with the warmest welcome from Rose, the activities' coordinator. The team went above and beyond to make us feel at home, and we truly appreciated the kindness and hospitality shown to us.
A special thank you for the delicious lunch that was so thoughtfully prepared. It was the perfect way to bring everyone together and enjoy each other’s company. Residents really enjoyed the ambience and lighting, looking out at the beautiful garden.
Moments like these remind us how important connection, collaboration, and community are in the care we provide. We’re so grateful for the opportunity to share experiences and strengthen our partnership. Even George the bear loved his visit.
What a FABBA-ulous Afternoon!
A huge thank you to our amazing Activities Team for putting on a fantastic ABBA-themed event this afternoon. Your energy, creativity, and talent truly made the afternoon unforgettable!
Our residents here at Harper Fields had an absolutely brilliant time. The singalong was a huge hit, with wonderful interaction, laughter, and smiles all around. Many said it was even better than our usual Friday singer, and they loved every moment of the afternoon.
We were also delighted to hear such lovely feedback from family members, who described the event as brilliant and so enjoyable. The afternoon ended with a well-deserved standing ovation from a resident and applauses all round, showing just how much it meant to everyone involved.
Thank you to everyone who attended today, making it so special. Our residents were truly happy, the staff were emotional from the love in the room, it was wonderful to see such joy and togetherness.

A Busy and Enjoyable Day
Yesterday was a lovely day in our care home, starting with 1-1 pamper sessions in the morning, giving residents the chance to enjoy focused time and personalised activities in a calm setting.
In the afternoon, we headed out together on the mini bus for a trip to a local farm shop, where everyone enjoyed a relaxing tea outing and a change of scenery.
It was great to see residents engaged, socialising, and making the most of both meaningful one-to-one time and a shared community outing. Days like these really make a difference.

Balsall Common Christmas Choir
Yesterday we were truly blessed to welcome the wonderful Balsall Common Choir into our home.
The house was filled with beautiful singing, so much laughter, and, of course, plenty of mince pies! Thank you all for bringing such joy and festive spirit. What a magical way to spend the day.
Already looking forward to the next time!

Afternoon tea in our private dining room
Today we hosted our very first Monthly Afternoon Tea — and what a lovely afternoon it was!
Residents gathered in our beautiful private dining room with their families to enjoy delicious scones with clotted cream and jam, mini cakes, and sandwiches, along with plenty of laughter and conversation. The atmosphere was filled with smiles, friendship, and the comforting clink of teacups.
We’re delighted to share that this will now be a regular event, held on the first Monday of every month. A wonderful way to come together, relax, and celebrate the simple joys of good company and great tea. We can’t wait for the next one!
