Activities at Hempton Field Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Life at Hempton Field Care Home

Open Air Holy Communion

The spiritual wellbeing of our residents has been extremely important throughout the past year. We are fortunate to have a close relationship with our friends at St Andrews Church, Chinnor.

Their virtual, and pod based services have kept our residents part of the community. This week, as the sun shone, our residents joined together in prayer and thanksgiving as the church group held their first 'outdoor' holy communion service in the gardens of Hempton Field.

Sensory Garden Goodies

Our residents enjoyed another trip out during the week, this time to gather more sensory plants and items for their garden project. We popped into Haddenham Garden Centre with its superb range of plants, our residents loved wondering through and choosing colourful and bee friendly blooms for their courtyard.

All thirsty work! The Gardener’s Retreat team at Haddenham garden centre looked after our little group so well; serving to the table freshly made tea and cake... simply delicious. On return, the group, along with their resident friends got to work. Planting and filling the new pots and cajoling John, our maintenance man to stop what he was doing and join them in the garden to put up the newly purchased ivy-clad trellis.

The sensory courtyard is really taking shape and becoming one of our resident’s favourite places to meet and spend time together. Our residents and staff would be pleased to welcome you for a show round of our beautiful home. We have a Meet the Manager event taking place on Saturday, 26th June 2021; please call us on 0204 5338957 to make an appointment*

*Covid safety protocols are in place throughout for the protection of our residents, staff and you; our wonderful visitor.

Fundraising for Local Charitles

We had a wonderful time on Tuesday hosting a stall at Thame Market. What a fabulous place to meet people so many lovely people, and have the opportunity to chat through their care needs. Our home manager; Sharon Thursby was on hand to offer advice and invite people to visit the home, meet the staff and residents at Hempton Field care home, in Chinnor.

During the day we ran a tombola, in aid of two local charities close to our residents hearts; Be Free Young Carers in Oxfordshire and Hearing Dogs for Deaf People in Princes Risborough.

Our tombola saw many winners, with prizes from Whiskey to hand-crafted cuddly toys and a large selection of grocery products graciously donated by Waitrose Thame and several amazing friends of the home from within the local community of Chinnor. #chinnorcommunity

We wanted to say a big THANK YOU to everyone for their donations, and to all that visited our stall. We raised a total £113.00 which will be split between both charities in support the great work they do.

We cannot thank the market traders enough for being so welcoming, and for all those who stopped by to buy a ticket! #thamecommunity We'll definitely be hosting more stalls in the future.

National Fish & Chips Day

Staff and residents at Hempton Field care home had a fantastic time celebrating National Fish & Chip Day on Fryday 4th June, surely one of the best days of the year!

Head chef, Heather whipped up a selection of different flavoured batters for residents to try along with some home-made tartare sauce and mushy peas, everyone had a great time guessing the different batter ingredients. The sun was shining so several residents took to the garden to eat their fish and chips.

Our General Manager, Sharon, said: “It wasn’t just the residents that were excited when we found out there was a National Fish & Chip Day, the eyes of all our staff lit up too – fish & chips are such an iconic dish, everyone loves them and it’s even better when there is a good excuse to eat them!”

Mabel, one of our lovely residents commented: “We’ve all had such a lovely day. It just doesn’t get any better than fish and chips served on newspaper, it took me right back – you can’t beat fish & chips as far as I’m concerned!”

Planting Sunflower Seeds

After visiting the hairdresser, our ladies got busy planting sunflower seeds! They just won’t stop until their sensory garden is full of colour and excitement, we’re looking forward to seeing how tall they’ll grow. We’d love to hear from any schools or groups in the area that have been planning sunflowers, our residents would to see how well yours are doing in the coming months.

Welcome Back Hairdresser; Helen!

Our residents want to say a big 'thank you' to the carers at Hempton Field for looking after their hair during the lockdown.  It's been almost 15 months of waiting for Helen the Hempton hairdresser to return and today was the day!

Gwen couldn't stop smiling being one of the first ladies to attend her appointment with Helen for a professional cut, curl and set. They were lining up to be treated to all the pampering of being at the hairdressers, our ladies looked simply beautiful with their new bouffant barnets, taking time to chat and catch some rays this afternoon in the sensory garden.

Life 'is' good at Hempton Field.
