Activities at Hempton Field Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Nina Mullerworth

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Nina and I have had the privilege of working at Hempton Field in my role as Activities Coordinator for over 15 years and I am looking forward to many more! I have enjoyed continually developing in the role with a variety of training courses, including a Level 2 NAPA and Aromatherapy Massage.

I love interacting with the residents and organising a varied programme of activities with a person-centred approach based on Barchester's Life Enrichment Programme of enhancing the wellbeing of mind, body and soul.  This includes ensuring residents can continue to enjoy hobbies, life experiences and keep active through exercise and music.  We are involved with local clubs and welcome in members of the community as well as a variety of outings in the minibus - these are always very popular!

Back to School Party

The school bell rang and Mrs Thursby (our wonderful General Manager) Sharon, called all our student (residents) to assembly. Going ‘Back to School’ for the day on 7th April 2021 was the choice of our residents and they really went for it! The day started with a spring themed school assembly, giving thanks for all we have, poem recitals and the whole school singing ‘All things bright and beautiful’ before our PE lesson with Mrs Clifford-Mullerworth (Nina).

All classes enjoyed a break-time drink of milk direct from the old school bottles and straws handed out by Milk Monitor (aka Head of Maintenance) John.  Everyone took pleasure from an informative rolling back of the years in our history lesson, reminiscing about old school days, including songs, rhymes and games. When teacher left the classroom, the naughty behaviour started, with paper plane making and throwing, using their snack boxes for protection! George, having been nominated as School Captain soon got them back on track before teacher returned and sounded the dinner bell. He definitely wore his badge with pride all day!

Our canteen staff (Chef and the hospitality team) created an amazing menu of memories for our students of beef stew and dumpling’s or spam fritters and fries, followed by sticky toffee pudding and (of course) cold custard!

During the day we ‘virtually’ opened our school gates (via zoom) to welcome the student (Residents and Staff) of Southerndown High School Barchester Healthcare joining us on their sponsored Cyclethon journey. Reaching Hempton Field marks their residents and staff achieving a total 74 miles of in-house pedal cycling in support of Young Carers across Oxfordshire Be Free Young Carers. We’re all so proud of their achievement so far, and wish them well onto their next pit stop Middletown Grange Care Home to find out more about the challenge please visit https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Team/Barchester

Gifts for Chinnor Community

During the Easter weekend activities our residents took time to prepare a basket of gifts for the Chinnor community. We wanted to give thanks for the everlasting friendships we have with the St Andrews Church Chinnor community.

Easter Treats and Simnel Cake

We hope you've all had a chocolate 'smashing' Easter weekend! Our residents have had lots of fun here at Hempton Field. Each received a scrumpious chocolate egg, which we had the pleasure of presenting individually in a hand crafted patchwork baskets gifted by one of our lovely resident family members.

Easter Sunday afternoon we got together to partake in 'tea' and enjoy a slice of the traditional Easter Simnel fruit cake baked by chef.

Greek Independents Day

Hempton Field went all out to celebrate 'Greek Independents Day' on 25th March 2021.

We enjoyed a full day of everything Greek! At lunch, whilst enjoying relaxing traditional music, we enjoyed stuffed vine leaves and moussaka. The staff and residents then attempted some Greek dancing... everyone especially enjoyed the Zorba dance!

Chef excelled in creating some amazing kebabs for supper, served with a Greek salad. The food, music and decorations made us all feel happy and our residents just loved reminiscing about their holidays to the beautiful Greek islands.

St Patrick's Day

“May the luck of the Irish enfold you. May the blessings of Saint Patrick behold you” - Irish Proverb

Today our residents enjoyed all things Irish! We had a proper giggle, dressing up ‘particularly laughing at Nina our activities lead in her outfit’. It was so good, some of our ladies couldn't wait to try it for themselves! We enjoyed the 'craic' with an Irish inspired quiz, a jig to Irish music and plenty of traditional Irish food.
