Activities at Hempton Field Care Home
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.
Read our brochure 'Life-enriching activities' for more information about life in our care homes.

Life at Hempton Field Care Home
International Nurses Day
Annually, on 12th May, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birth, we celebrate 'International Nurses Day'. A global event that acknowledges and praises the commitment and bravery of nurses around the world.
Home Manager; Sharon took time to present a gift of THANKS to each of our nurses at Hempton Field, in recognition of their continued dedication to the protection and health of our residents.
Following a year like no other, we are incredibly proud of our nurse, and extended care teams for all they have done, and continue to do for our residents. Thank you so much you're; an amazing team!
Board Game Fun
Monopoly isn't just for Christmas day! Our residents just love it, particularly on a rainy spring day.
Playing together brought back so many happy memories. One of our lady residents; Mabel knows London so well she gave the group a full run down on each street, naming shops she'd visited when in the area. They had a fantastic time, chatting away and playing all afternoon.
Mental Wellbeing & Vegetarian Week
Our Barchester life enrichment program of virtual events continued on Tuesday with a morning exercise session in support of Mental Health awareness week. We started the day with armchair exercise and mindfulness moments courtesy of 'The Green Goddess'; Diana Moran.
In the afternoon our residents settle down to attend a ‘live’ cooking demonstration with professional Chef Alex Connell from 'Vegetarian For Life' V for Life who prepared, and talked us through a variety of vegetarian dishes. Our in-house chef and kitchen team followed the same recipes and we were able to tastes each dish as they were created 'on screen'.
We enjoyed ballotti bean and dill pate, coronation chicken with Quorn, vegetable fritters, with Tzatzik followed by banana bread. Simply delicious!
VE Day Remembered
Saturday 8th May marks 76 years since VE Day - the end of the Second World War in Europe. Due to the pandemic and today’s weather our street party has been postponed for another year but that didn’t stop our residents observing the occasion.
We decorated the lounge in red, white and blue before taking a ‘virtual’ tour of Bletchley Park. Our residents loved the images and commentary, it felt as though we were there, walking through the grounds and mansion learning all about the amazing codebreakers.
Nina prepared a VE Day inspired quiz tough enough for any codebreaker which, of course our cleaver residents cracked with ease.
Happy Cinco de Mayo Day!
Cinco de Mayo simply translates to “Fifth of May” in Spanish. Our residents enjoyed a day of Mexican themed activities including; music and a virtual tour of Mexico which brought back many happy memories of visits to the country.
The dining hall had been decorated in the colours traditionally associated with Cinco de Mayo; red, white and green, reflecting the colours of the Mexican flag and Chef created a varied Tex-Mex menu of nachos, and chilli con carne with guacamole, salsa and sour cream sides. It was a fabulous fiesta for all!
Sensory Garden Planning
So what should be in a Sensory garden?
Our residents couldn't wait to start the planning today, whilst enjoying a little G&T over canapés of course! They discussed; plants of colour and fragrance, flowers to attract the bees and other insects, structures of beauty that would capture the sunlight, herbs and grasses. They’d like it to be a place to enjoy all year round, so some evergreens and ferns were also put in the mix.
We don’t have an Alan Titchmarsh or Charlie Dimmock in the home to give us a steer in the right direction, what we do have are many willing residents and staff. If there are any avid gardeners in the Chinnor area who have a flare for designing sensory gardens and can offer some support or ideas on what to plant, please do get in touch E. We’re looking forward to seeing the area come to life!
