Activities at Henford House Care Home
Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in, as well as visits from PAT dogs, musicians and entertainers. We also host evenings such as our cheese & wine nights, pub evening, quiz nights and special occasions such as, Guy Fawkes, Easter and Christmas where we like to encourage relatives to come to. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained, and that life at Henford House is fun and active.
Debbie Phillips
I joined Henford House in March 2014; after five and a half years of domiciliary care, this position became available at Henford and I decided that it would be great to do more of the fun things in life with residents! It is great here at the home; we get along so well and truly have some laughs. Residents have a wide range of activities to participate in each week, including armchair exercises, bingo sessions, singalongs, musical entertainment, pottery, manicures, celebrations and much more. It is very rewarding knowing that people are grateful for the work I've done when I go. Working here has also given me the opportunity to gain my Level 2 NAPA certificate.

Life at Henford House Care Home
Coronation Celebrations
Henford House had a three day coronation celebration schedule starting on the Saturday with residents gathering to watch the TV coverage of watching King Charles being crowned including a warm buffet and wine for lunch followed by a country and western party with Vanessa. On Sunday the traditional roast for the coronation big lunch took place followed by a piano and accordion sing along with Sophie, on the bank holiday Monday the residents enjoyed a knees up with Jim playing guitar. It was a wonderful weekend all the residents had such a good time singing and enjoying delicious food and drink.
Celebrating St. Georges Day
The residents enjoyed celebrating St. George’s Day with a delicious traditional 3 course Sunday lunch and later on in the afternoon everyone got together for a jolly good old sing along with Sophie Eden who is regular at Henford House who always gets all the residents lively and they really enjoy hearing the accordion and piano.
Easter Celebrations
Henford House came alive over Easter weekend, the sun shone brightly as many children hunted for chocolate bunnies and eggs in the gardens. Before the hunt begun the children enjoyed colouring in Easter chicks for a colouring competition, it was very difficult to judge but the residents agreed on a first, second and third. Hot cross buns, tea and coffee kept the parents going throughout the morning! The Easter raffle was called for more chocolate eggs to be won! The residents really enjoyed seeing the children it brought the home to life and was great to see so many of them running around the gardens.
Nutrition and Hydration Week
Last week was nutrition week and besides many healthy options the ladies indulged in a cream tea afternoon, enjoying homemade scones covered in lashings of strawberry jam and clotted cream.
Rabbits & Guinea Pigs
The residents enjoyed an afternoon with some furry friends, Sharandys who usually visit with owls and birds brought rabbits and guinea pigs for the residents to touch and observe, some residents were aware of the breeds and had kept this type of rabbit themselves. Everyone had such a lovely time interacting with their new furry friends.
St. Patrick's Day
The residents celebrated St. Patricks day in style. In the morning, we showed Michael Flatley's Irish dance show, 'Lord of the dance', then a 3 course Irish lunch and a good old sing along, stomping feet and clapping with live Irish musical entertainment. The home was alive and although there were no Irish residents our only Irish member of staff said it was a brilliant atmosphere who had fun with the residents wearing a shamrock hat and glasses!
