Activities at Henford House Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in, as well as visits from PAT dogs, musicians and entertainers. We also host evenings such as our cheese & wine nights, pub evening, quiz nights and special occasions such as, Guy Fawkes, Easter and Christmas where we like to encourage relatives to come to. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained, and that life at Henford House is fun and active.

Debbie Phillips

Activities Coordinator

I joined Henford House in March 2014; after five and a half years of domiciliary care, this position became available at Henford and I decided that it would be great to do more of the fun things in life with residents! It is great here at the home; we get along so well and truly have some laughs. Residents have a wide range of activities to participate in each week, including armchair exercises, bingo sessions, singalongs, musical entertainment, pottery, manicures, celebrations and much more. It is very rewarding knowing that people are grateful for the work I've done when I go. Working here has also given me the opportunity to gain my Level 2 NAPA certificate.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Lakeside Garden Centre

We took a little trip out to a local garden centre recently where places like this are getting in the festive spirit.  Pretty lights were twinkling and such a variety of Christmas trees to admire let alone all the pretty Christmas decorations sparkling away.  So much to look at and enjoy, delicious cake and pots of tea went down very well in the  coffee shop before exploring all the beautiful items on sale in the shop.  It was a nice change to get out and about and to be amongst the community seeing them having a lovely time.  After a little bit of shopping was done we returned back in time for supper.

Rabbits visit our Residents

The residents had a lovely afternoon making a fuss of the beautiful rabbits when they came to visit us, the rabbits had their own little beds so they could sit on the residents lap to be able to smooth them and learn about their breed and for some of the residents it brought back very fond memories of having rabbits as pets when they children, the rabbits visited the lounge and did room visits.

Pottery Projects

The residents continue their projects in pottery, the procedure from creation to going in the kiln and then choosing the colour of glaze to finished product is now so much quicker since having the new kiln on site.  The residents are now looking at making items for Christmas to be able to give to their friends and family.

Gardening Club

Our residents enjoy gardening club throughout the year, the changing of seasons always give them something to work on from planting bulbs in pots and plants in hanging baskets and tubs to growing fruit and vegetables, the potatoes go down well after harvest when the residents indulge with butter on the boiled potatoes, they also grow herbs which are lovely to handle with their different fragrances and are very useful for the chef to use in the kitchen.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

Henford House held their Macmillan coffee morning on Friday 6th October, it was lovely to see members of the community come and support this.  A residents daughter has always done us proud with her fantastic baking and has always helped us on this occasion which we are very grateful for.  Everyone recognises that this fund raising event is so needed and it is so wonderful that everyone pulls together to make this happen each year. We are very pleased to say we raised £139 for Macmillan and thank everyone involved.

Alpacas Visit Henford House

The residents enjoyed the visit from the Alpacas, Wendy who runs her Alpaca farm in Shaftsbury has been visiting Henford House for a few years now and all her Alpacas behave very well when they come to see us, they start off in the lounge and then go around the home visiting residents in their rooms and do very well having to use the lift to go upstairs, Buddy the black Alpaca was a little shy as it was only his second time visiting a care home but he done very well.
