Activities at Henford House Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in, as well as visits from PAT dogs, musicians and entertainers. We also host evenings such as our cheese & wine nights, pub evening, quiz nights and special occasions such as, Guy Fawkes, Easter and Christmas where we like to encourage relatives to come to. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained, and that life at Henford House is fun and active.

Debbie Phillips
I joined Henford House in March 2014; after five and a half years of domiciliary care, this position became available at Henford and I decided that it would be great to do more of the fun things in life with residents! It is great here at the home; we get along so well and truly have some laughs. Residents have a wide range of activities to participate in each week, including armchair exercises, bingo sessions, singalongs, musical entertainment, pottery, manicures, celebrations and much more. It is very rewarding knowing that people are grateful for the work I've done when I go. Working here has also given me the opportunity to gain my Level 2 NAPA certificate.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Valentines at Henford
Henford House was blooming with many flowers for Valentine’s day following a Barchester virtual talk on flower arranging. The residents spent a whole afternoon putting what they learnt from the talk in to practice to make beautiful dining table decorations. On Valentine’s day a few of the residents invited their wives and husbands to join them to enjoy a delicious lunch together and to appreciate all the beautiful flowers on display and gave their loved one a red rose. It was so wonderful to see the love shared.

Burns Night
The residents at Henford House celebrated Burns night in traditional Scottish style with the haggis addressed.
Piper Liv Mclennan arrived at Henford House late morning and entertained the residents with her wonderful tunes in both lounges and room visits before piping in the haggis through the dining room with chef Adrian Warren. Scottish resident Margaret Simpson was very passionate about addressing the haggis so it was wonderful for Margaret to do so before the haggis was enjoyed. The residents had been learning from Margaret during the morning how important this event was when she lived in Scotland and how the Scots celebrated. Royal British legion members Mike and Fay Lawton and June Baggs also attended the celebration and we learned it was Mikes birthday so Liv played happy birthday while everyone sang. The atmosphere was amazing the bagpipes brought the whole home alive!

Happy 103rd Birthday Mary!
Mary Hillman recently celebrated her 103rd birthday with delicious cake and a glass of fizz! Beautiful flowers, cards and gifts arrived for Mary.
Mary left her home in Upton Scudamore in December 2020 and came to Henford House care home. We have been so lucky to celebrate such wonderful milestones with Mary. Over the years Mary has enjoyed our themed events and especially the royal celebrations. Mary always has a smile and is such an inspiration!

Christmas at Henford House
Leading up to Christmas the residents had some very busy afternoons with different musicians coming in to play and sing with them including one evening with a fantastic choir and brass band which was organised by one of our nurses and after each of these sessions warm mince pies and mulled wine was served. Besides lots of singing a range of animal visits took place including Charlie the donkey, Sharandys birds of prey, Alpacas and Tropical Discovery with the reptiles and giant insects, the residents were occupied each day with great activities. Our annual visit from Mr. & Mrs Claus and Bubbles the Elf from Frome Grotto also called in to wish all the residents a Merry Christmas. We held our Carol service on the 16th, enjoyed a warm buffet and called the raffle and was lovely to see so many visitors attend this. Christmas Day was a busy day in itself with a traditional 5 course lunch to then relax and enjoy the Kings speech.

Henford House Christmas market
The Christmas market at Henford House on December 3rd went really well, many visitors enjoyed the different variety of stalls including sweets and fudge, wood turned items, floral Christmas decorations, hand knitted decorations, artwork on trays and coasters, body shop, fabric made decorations and more different types of art on wood and more. Warm mulled wine and mince pies were enjoyed after browsing and lots of raffle tickets were sold for the Christmas raffle which will be drawn on the 16th after the Henford House carol service. Was lovely to see some old faces and new, there was a wonderful atmosphere in the home.
