Activities at Henford House Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual activities for anyone and everyone to participate in, as well as visits from PAT dogs, musicians and entertainers. We also host evenings such as our cheese & wine nights, pub evening, quiz nights and special occasions such as, Guy Fawkes, Easter and Christmas where we like to encourage relatives to come to. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained, and that life at Henford House is fun and active.

Debbie Phillips

Activities Coordinator

I joined Henford House in March 2014; after five and a half years of domiciliary care, this position became available at Henford and I decided that it would be great to do more of the fun things in life with residents! It is great here at the home; we get along so well and truly have some laughs. Residents have a wide range of activities to participate in each week, including armchair exercises, bingo sessions, singalongs, musical entertainment, pottery, manicures, celebrations and much more. It is very rewarding knowing that people are grateful for the work I've done when I go. Working here has also given me the opportunity to gain my Level 2 NAPA certificate.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Harvest Festival

The residents had a busy time preparing for our Harvest Festival service, making salt dough creations is always a great craft session and maintenance manager Colin Marsh used to be a professional baker and wanted to make a salt dough wheatsheaf with the residents, together they formed bits of the salt dough to make a life like sheaf to put on display for the harvest church service.  The home grown potatoes also had to be harvested and the weather was kind to be able to do this outside in the garden and two bowls of potatoes were produced and enjoyed for supper with ham and salad.  We had a wonderful service led by Eva Burton from Christ Church and Pam played the piano and many hymns were sang, we are very grateful for their time to make this happen for the residents.  After lunch a good old sing song was had with Sian and Rob performing to complete a wonderful day.

Tropical Discovery

A big thank you to Kris Freeman for brining his extraordinary creatures this week to Henford House.

Our residents thoroughly enjoyed getting up close and personal with Kris's selection of animals such as Bearded Dragons, Tortoise and even a Snake.

This really was a different type of PET therapy than our normal fluffy friends.

It was great to get an insight into these amazing animals behaviours, our residents even at the opportunity to hold them.

A massive thank you again Kris!

A trip out in the Mini Bus!

We have been out and about in the Mini Bus and making most of this beautiful weather at Henford House.

Our visit this week was to one of our beautiful parks. The Pavilion Café is a favourite with all of our residents at Henford House and its great that its located in the beautiful grounds at Thoulston Park.

Its a beautiful little café to enjoy a good cup of coffee and delicious slice of cake with friends.

Our residents enjoy our trips out in the Mini Bus and visiting different local companies to support our community.

Baby and Toddler Group

What a brilliant first Baby and Toddler Group we had at Henford House!

We didn't let the typical British weather dampen our spirits and enjoyed time with our little visitors in our beautiful garden.

Intergenerational groups are a key part of our life enrichment programme at Henford house and its lovely to see the bond between our visitors and our residents.

Thank you to all the wonderful parents and little ones who joined us. We had so much fun and cant wait to see you all again next month.

Dog Show

At Henford House we recently held our dog show and what a fantastic day it was!

A big thank you to everyone that joined us and of course their wonderful dogs. The day was filled with laughter, love and some furry cuddles.

There were lots of different categories for our furry visitors to enter, with many of them coming away with some delicious treats to enjoy.

Congratulations to all our winners and a special shout out to all the dogs that were on their best behaviour that day. We can't wait for next years!

What a brilliant time we had at our annual garden party.

We didn't let the showers damping our spirts and the day was a huge success with our community coming together.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of everyone who attended, we raised over £700 for Wiltshire Air Ambulance.
