Activities at Hethersett Hall Care Home

Activities, hobbies and interests make up the most important part of our days and who we are as people. We provide a varied activities programme that reflects the interests and capabilities of all the individuals we support. All of the group and individual activities are designed to not only mentally and physically stimulate the people we care for, but to enhance their life skills and feelings of purpose and self-worth. We achieve this through a constantly updated activities programme and one-to-one sessions with residents that are tailored to suit individuals needs. We also offer a range of outings in our mini-bus.

Caroline Evans

Activities Coordinator

Hi, I’m Caroline Evans and I’ve been at Hethersett Hall for 7 years now and been in the care sector for 13 years and believed it was time for a change in my career at Barchester.

I’m extremely motivated for my new role as activities coordinator. I hope I will bring joy and fun to everyone’s daily lives. I am a highly active and bubbly person. Looking after other people has always been my priority and I will do my best every day to make sure everyone is happy, safe and smiling.

I look forward to meeting you and hope you will all join in the events and activities that I will bring to Hethersett Hall.

Virtual Science Session

Our residents recently enjoyed an afternoon of science experiments online with local children courtesy of Friend Indeed and scientist Lucy. The residents enjoyed joining in with the fun experiments included in the box that Lucy sent to the home. Residents enjoyed making gyrocopters, looking through special specs to see the full spectrum of light and making paper water lilies while watching the children do the same online!

It was so nice to see that inter-generational friendships can still be made even in these troubling times with the magic of technology. When asked if they enjoyed it a resident said ‘very much so’, with another adding ‘oh yes, it was lovely and nice to see the children again as we have missed them‘.  A huge thank you to Kelly from Friend Indeed for organising it all and we look forward to the next one!

Shall We Dance?

Earlier this month we celebrated a special lady’s 88th birthday. She and her husband shared a little dance after he presented her with a beautiful bouquet of flowers. Staff and residents stood by in adoration and sang happy birthday as she blew out the candles on the cake our chef made.

This fantastic couple has had many wonderful years together. Here at Hethersett Hall, we feel honored to have them in our care and to hear their fondest memories of their time together.

Draughts, Anyone?

Residents enjoyed a game of draughts whilst, making the most of the sunshine! These lovely gentleman had a friendly game and shared lots of laughter!

Divisional Carer of the Year

Congratulations to Becky Knott, who has been named as a Divisional Winner in the 2020 Barchester Care Awards. Becky is a finalist in the Carer of the Year category and has been invited to attend a virtual awards ceremony on 8th October, where she will find out if she has won overall.

Memory Lane

We have been busy creating memory boxes for residents' keepsakes. We spent time chatting about what colours residents would like to use, how they would like to decorate their boxes and what special photos or items they would like to put in them. Memory boxes are a special memento for residents to look through to remember happy times and significant moments in their lives, which is part of who they are and can be shared with others to engage conversation to meet social and emotional needs.

Strike

We introduced the residents of Memory Lane to our new bowling pins, which proved to be great fun, and was a chance to exercise as well. There was lots of laughter shared amongst residents, as we had a friendly competition.
