Activities at Hethersett Hall Care Home

Activities, hobbies and interests make up the most important part of our days and who we are as people. We provide a varied activities programme that reflects the interests and capabilities of all the individuals we support. All of the group and individual activities are designed to not only mentally and physically stimulate the people we care for, but to enhance their life skills and feelings of purpose and self-worth. We achieve this through a constantly updated activities programme and one-to-one sessions with residents that are tailored to suit individuals needs. We also offer a range of outings in our mini-bus.

Caroline Evans

Activities Coordinator

Hi, I’m Caroline Evans and I’ve been at Hethersett Hall for 7 years now and been in the care sector for 13 years and believed it was time for a change in my career at Barchester.

I’m extremely motivated for my new role as activities coordinator. I hope I will bring joy and fun to everyone’s daily lives. I am a highly active and bubbly person. Looking after other people has always been my priority and I will do my best every day to make sure everyone is happy, safe and smiling.

I look forward to meeting you and hope you will all join in the events and activities that I will bring to Hethersett Hall.

Life at Hethersett Hall Care Home

Norwich FC – Footballs coming home!

Last weekend we received a surprise visit from members of Norwich Football Club with a signed jersey, some delicious carrot cake made by Delia Smiths catering team and a lovely letter of support. The team at Hethersett Hall are so grateful for the many acts of kindness we have received throughout this tough time.

Wishing Tree

We thought it would be nice to display a wishing tree in reception with our resident’s wishes, hopes and prayers for the future. We hope our wishing tree will give people a reason to smile and stay positive.

A ray of sunshine!

Earlier this week we spent time in the garden planting sunflower seeds. Residents enjoyed planting their own sunflower in a little pot. Once the sunflowers begin to grow our maintenance team and gardener will plant them in the garden so residents can be supported to water and care for their sunflower. To add a little more fun to this activity the resident who has the tallest sunflower will win a prize!

We all had such a lovely morning with an added bonus enjoying the sunshine from the veranda.

We sent sunflower seeds to little visitors from Friend in Deed so they can enjoy growing a sunflower too and share photos with their friends at Hethersett Hall.

75th VE DAY CELEBRATIONS

On Friday the 8th of May, we celebrated the 75th VE Day anniversary in style. We decorated the home with lots of Union Jack bunting and balloons, our chef prepared a war time themed lunch and supper! Donna took time to bake wonderful cakes too! Residents and staff gathered together at 11am for a two minute silence followed by a special message from our dear Friends, Friend in Deed. The children waved flags as they sang “we’ll meet again” and acted out “digging for victory” in their gardens.

In the afternoon, residents waved flags and wore party hats as we raised a glass to the nation, showing our gratitude to “those who gave so much”. We ended our celebrations watching and singing along to a montage of wartime classics sang by Charlene.

To those who gave so much, we will always remember them.

Knitting for Kindness

One of residents, Margaret kindly took the time to knit 12 face mask adapters for staff, to help make their masks more comfortable. Margaret has knitted items for our Fetes and Christmas Markets before but this particular project is very much appreciated by all staff. Thank you Margaret!

Family time online

Since our residents haven’t been able to have visits from their family and friends, activities staff have put together a timetable for regular Skype, FaceTime and What’s App video calls. At first, most of our residents found it quite overwhelming how advanced technology is but it has given them the opportunity to keep in touch with their loved ones which they look forward to each week. It’s so lovely to see our residents smile as soon as the video call connects and the laughter shared! Our residents have learnt a lot about technology however the residents can’t wait to reunite with their families, a big party is definitely on the cards!!
