Activities at Hilderstone Hall Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our activities team are, first and foremost, devoted to each and every resident in the home, and strive to ensure that their interests, hobbies, capabilities and individual requests are met to the highest standard. This could include one-to-one chats, hand massages, reading, music therapy, flower arranging, movement to music, arts & crafts, gardening and baking. We also have regular fun, adventurous and stimulating trips, where we encourage families and loved ones to join us. We have close links with the Alzheimer's Society, the local primary school, and Trinity Skills who come to sing with residents. All the staff at Hilderstone Hall participate in activities with residents, offering encouragement, stimulation and interaction for everyone involved, providing the most fulfilling experience possible.

Ellie Robinson

Activities Co-ordinator

Hi, my name is Ellie and I am the Activities Co-ordinator here at Hilderstone Hall.

I joined the team in November 2024 having previously worked in hospitality and event planning.  I am not new to working in healthcare - earlier in my career I trained and worked as a Care Assistant and obtained my NVQ Level 2 and Higher Diploma Level 3 in Health and Social Care.

I bring bags of energy and enthusiasm and I enjoy spending time with Residents, getting to know them individually, their personalities, likes and dislikes.  Ultimately, this enables me to plan and deliver a tailored activities programme to suit their wants and needs.

I am also a qualified florist, which supports the creativity involved in the role and I can inspire Residents to participate in regular and new activities and events.

Outside of work, I am a Mum to my young Son, which keeps me busy! In my spare time my family and I enjoy getting out in the the fresh air for walks and there is usually a coffee and cake stop too!

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Exploring Nature Craft

Throughout August we have been spending as much time as possible in our glorious grounds, we are so lucky to be surrounded by an abundance of greenery and nature.

Residents ventured out on a nature walk to collect fallen conkers.  Even though they weren't quite ready it brought back fond memories of childhood games of conkers and a couple of Residents decided to give the game another go!

We also collected, leaves, flowers and blackberries from our gardens and spent the afternoon in our bistro area getting creative with flower prints.

Summer Garden Party

Thank you to everyone who came and supported our summer garden party.  It was a fabulous afternoon as we were joined by friends, family, the community and Residents from another Barchester home.

Our Head Chef, Rodney and his team cooked up a storm in the kitchen and there was food galore to enjoy along with plenty of refreshments and beverages.

The weather stayed fine for the day as we enjoyed some musical entertainment in the glorious grounds of our grade II listed, heritage building.

Alfresco Dining

During the month of July we have made the most of the sunny weather when it has made an appearance by improving our mood and wellbeing by dinning outside within the vast gardens around home. Sunlight helps to boost a chemical in your brain called serotine and that in turn boosts energy improve focus and helps to prompt a positive mood. Our residents were served a lovely three course summer menu consisting of quiche potato salad, soup and a  summer delight desert.

Bobbies ice cream parlour

With the sunny weather appearing we ventured out to the local ice cream parlour, we reminisced about what our favourite child hood ice cream flavour was and also got to indulge in a scrumptious diary ice cream of our choice in a sugar waffle cone. There was also a small variety of animals for us to see including donkey’s goats and pigs. This fabulous treat afternoon was described as wonderful by our residents.

Barn Dancing

Community connects are an important part of life enrichment here at Hilderstone hall care home. This month we took the mini bus on a trip to the local village hall to join the local community for a barn dance. Our residents leaned how to line dance and got the opportunity to catch up and enjoy a social evening out with friends and family.

Canal boat Trip

Many resident within Hilderstone hall have travelled the world with this in mind we booked our own little adventure for the day in the form of a canal boat trip. We travelled on the mini bus to join the canal and hop on a boat for the day. We sailed along the canal and got to see many species of wildlife including baby goslings a heron and even some birds of prey. We stopped at the village of Colton to enjoy a traditional fish and chip lunch aboard the barge. The sun was on our side for the first half of our trip so we got to sit of the deck of the boat and enjoy the tranquil scenery fabulous trip was had by all.
