Activities at Hilderstone Hall Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our activities team are, first and foremost, devoted to each and every resident in the home, and strive to ensure that their interests, hobbies, capabilities and individual requests are met to the highest standard. This could include one-to-one chats, hand massages, reading, music therapy, flower arranging, movement to music, arts & crafts, gardening and baking. We also have regular fun, adventurous and stimulating trips, where we encourage families and loved ones to join us. We have close links with the Alzheimer's Society, the local primary school, and Trinity Skills who come to sing with residents. All the staff at Hilderstone Hall participate in activities with residents, offering encouragement, stimulation and interaction for everyone involved, providing the most fulfilling experience possible.

Ellie Robinson

Activities Co-ordinator

Hi, my name is Ellie and I am the Activities Co-ordinator here at Hilderstone Hall.

I joined the team in November 2024 having previously worked in hospitality and event planning.  I am not new to working in healthcare - earlier in my career I trained and worked as a Care Assistant and obtained my NVQ Level 2 and Higher Diploma Level 3 in Health and Social Care.

I bring bags of energy and enthusiasm and I enjoy spending time with Residents, getting to know them individually, their personalities, likes and dislikes.  Ultimately, this enables me to plan and deliver a tailored activities programme to suit their wants and needs.

I am also a qualified florist, which supports the creativity involved in the role and I can inspire Residents to participate in regular and new activities and events.

Outside of work, I am a Mum to my young Son, which keeps me busy! In my spare time my family and I enjoy getting out in the the fresh air for walks and there is usually a coffee and cake stop too!

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Hilderstone Hall Care Home

The potteries museum and art gallery

This month we travelled on our mini bus to the potteries museum an art gallery to look at the heritage of the potteries. The pot bank industry was a large part of many people’s lives here in Staffordshire. Many of our residents have an art background and therefore were keen to see the works of this area. Some of our residents have joined us from far and wide and loved seeing the historic Stafford hoard. The potteries museum is also a firm favourite as the spitfire also has its own display here many of our residents reminisced about its use.

Mad hatters tea Party

Books have played an important role within many of our resident lives for work or for hobbies. To celebrate world book day we hosted a mad hatter’s tea party. Each resident was sat around a themed table and enjoyed different varieties of themed cakes. Staff and residents wore costumes relating to the theme. A splendid afternoon was had by all.

Ten pin bowling

Our resident’s here at Hilderstone Hall have enjoyed a visit to ten pin bowling this month. Each week within the home we have been playing skittles in main lounge which has become a firm favourite within activities. With this in mind we hoped on the mini bus and went to the actual bowling alley the residents loved the experience and engaging within the community. Whilst there we took turns on playing on the arcade machines which brought back many memories of seaside holidays.

Science club

Science has played a large part especially medical science in many of our residents previous occupations, with this in mind we decided to conduct our own experiments to see what the outcomes would be. We produced our own erupting volcano and a rainbow using skittles. Another experiment we conducted was to see if a bag who hold water when pieced using pencils without it breaking. This afternoon was a fun afternoon which brought back many skills that our residents would have used in their previous occupations.

It was a highly manoeuvrable aircraft and was continued to be used up until the 1950s.

Traveling ceramic café

To boost our creative minds we were joined by the traveling ceramic café. Many of our residents have worked within the pot bank industry and therefore would have been decorators of ceramic. We were taught what was needed to ensure that our pieces were of a high standard, this encouraged our residents to plan and focus on a task. A brilliant afternoon was had by all our pottery creations were taken away to be fired and returned to us in all their splendid glory.
