Activities at Hugh Myddelton House Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Mice and Cheese Game!

We enjoyed a new game in the lounge today, with a huge cheese and cloth bags shaped as mice to be thrown into the pockets of the cheese. Residents and staff all had fun throwing to get the highest score - Alison's attempt was poor, twice she completely missed the cheese much to the amusement of Nicky who was far more successful

BIG thank you for Iuliana from our residents and relatives

Iuliana has received lovely comments from families for her help with the garden visits to see their loved ones, her calm and helpful manner has been so appreciated during those extremely hot afternoons and also during the downpours this week! One family took time to complete a carehome.co.uk review for the home and gave her 5*!

Well done Iuliana - thank you for your passion in going the extra mile for residents

Our Very Own Balloon Festival!

This weekend is traditionally the International Bristol Balloon Festival with hundreds of colourful balloons taking off into the skies around the city.

Many of our residents have memories of balloon games with their children and grandchildren, and also some actual flights in hot air balloons in wicker baskets!

We celebrated with our very own games on Friday with everyone holding on to make the balloons bounce and fly to the ceiling - Up up and away

McVitie’s Tasties Biscuit Decorating Competition

Residents enjoyed getting into a crafty mood with their entry for the UK’s best decorated biscuit in the competition for the McVitie’s Tasties Care Home biscuit decorating champion!

With a base of McVitie biscuits residents rolled out icing and created beautiful biscuits which were then displayed and eaten with an afternoon cup of tea. Hugh Myddelton’s entry is now in and we are hoping to be a winners, watch this space for an update when the judges have made their decision

Great Shot!

Basketball demands hand and eye coordination - standing or seated getting the ball into the hoop give you a lift and feeling of achievement. Our game on this week included residents and the care team so there was a healthy sense of competition amongst the players

Smiles all round at Hugh Myddelton House on Friendship Day

Hugh Myddelton House had a creative morning celebrating Friendship Day on 30th July wrapping ‘tea box’ gifts and creating friendship cards to send to the local community. There were smiles all round as staff also shared the importance of friends and how they can enrich your life.

The International Day of Friendship was proclaimed in 2011 by the UN General Assembly with the idea that friendship between peoples, countries, cultures and individuals can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities.

Today, Friendship Day is celebrated in many countries across the globe and is a special occasion that encourages people to celebrate their friendships – old and new – by spending time with their friends and family. Traditions vary between cultures but they generally include the exchange of friendship bands, cards, and other gifts to mark the day.

Care homes can play a key role in combating loneliness and social isolation in our communities, and what better place to start than Friendship Day?

Ramona Stanciu, Deputy Manager at the home, said: “Everyone at Hugh Myddelton House was keen to get involved in Friendship Day’s celebrations. It was really nice to see residents enaging with their friends in the home, and I think it made everyone realise just how amazing it is to keep in touch with old friends.”
